Where are you located? That tax seems a little high. I found one dealer hiding some shit in there until I called them on it...

    Hi folks.

I'm new to the site, and planning to buy my first Tacoma in the coming days/weeks.

Narrowed to: 4x4 DC TRD Sport w/ Premium, SB. (Likely cement)

I have appreciated and enjoyed reading through the last month or two of these posts, thanks to everyone it's very helpful. I am in Northern California Bay Area which seems to be a tight market for this truck.

I am working with one quote right now which I think is fair (but maybe not spectacular). Essentially, the truck I want is ~$43.5K MSRP, and I'm getting close to $2K discount to $41.5K (about 5%) which, when added to $1000 lease cash, derives a pretty decent value I think. Lease residual at 78% is nice, but MF is not great at 0.00231.

I know some of the quotes on here are upwards of 8%-9% off sticker but I have not been able to get anyone close to that and wondering if that is regional. A couple dealers here in Bay Area are actually adding markups and not budging at all from MSRP.

Any thoughts? Strategies in waiting longer in month? One high volume dealer in SoCal I was working with has zero in stock or allocated for at least 2 weeks so I'm just nervous on supply stuff.

Also, I used to have a 2006 with the 4.0l. This thing feels gutless. No low end torque at all

So if the trade-in value is 30, then the private party value is probably about 2500 more which most of that loss is offset by the tax savings. Call the rest of the difference the convenience fee of not having to sell it yourself. You’re just over 10% off MSRP before the rebate which is one of the better deals on here lately since corona hit.

Dealer in northern AL came off $1000 on a $51,000 loaded 2021 TRD Pro in cement grey... I waited literally 24hours and they sold it to someone else for $500 off sticker. I've been buying cars since I was 19 or so and never paid sticker (or even close to it). Ended up buying a loaded 2019 TRD Pro in voodoo that this guy traded in on the grey one... No regrets. Loving the voodoo blue.

~7.7% off MSRP. Assuming that’s including the rebate. So really a little over 5% off if you wanted to compare it to the previous post. Not terribly bad but not good either. I think you said that the discount would end up being around 3000 off. If the thousand dollar rebate comes off in addition to the 3000 then you’re talking good deal. But most people aren’t getting those these days.

Absolutely regional. California is by far the worst place to try and find a deal. 2000 off is more than most say they’re getting in California. Almost makes me wonder if there are dealer add-ons or something else that is padding the dealer profit if they’re giving 2 grand off. If you care about saving a couple thousand dollars buy an airplane ticket to somewhere out of state Oregon, Arizona whatever, buy one there and drive it back.

Did you try asking Costco for another dealer or use a different zip code? They have more than one snd the further you get away from your geographical area probably the more likely they will price right.

Sigh. Like I've posted a million times before, This is not a 4.0. It's better than a 4.0. It builds more horsepower and more torque and it has a higher powerband. Use the tachometer you paid for. Do not expect it to build low end torque like the antiquated V6 you're used to driving.

Luckily for you, nobody is forcing you to buy one!

My '20 was hecho en mexico, and it's a perfectly fine vehicle. Try and not let your bigotry get in the way of economics.

I love the irony of all this. People have been screaming about their tacomas being built out of the US, completely oblivious to the fact that it's a Japanese car manufacturer. If you want domestic, buy a Ford. But I think most of those are built in Mexico now as well. Oops.

Except that you're wrong. Labor prices are a direct reflection of corporations trying to maximize ROI and gain market share. The trucks aren't over priced because Mexican labor is cheap. Overpriced is a perceived value. It's a value you have in your own mind. If you personally don't have the money, or you don't see the value in the commodity being sold, you aren't going to buy it. That has nothing to do with the market for these trucks. If the market thought that the trucks were overpriced, nobody would buy them. Clearly people are still buying them, so Toyota's move to manufacture in Mexico and obtaining perceived cheaper labor is a perfectly reasonable decision to make.

Why? Because they still manufacture a superior product, to their standards, but they've managed to cut the production costs down a bit. It's not rocket science.

I can see through your point of view but I would buy something made in Japan rather than down south. Quality workmanship and Japan oem parts do make a different we all know that.

Are 6MT actually available for 2021? I have played with the online configurator and I don't see it in any trim package.
