Quick Question @Shellshock, @tonered I am setting up a clean machine to run TechStream. I plan to use WIN7 on a older Dell laptop - Intel based i7 processor. I plan on installing only the needed drivers (video, USB, etc). My question is do you know if Java must be installed?

Sorry, but I do not recall. Regardless though, if it is going to be a dedicated flash machine that you won't do regular updates to or connect to the net, installing Java is no issue.

The funny part is that some corp sites still use Java and freaking Flash. I miss the Flash games and such, but Come On!

Thanks! You are right I can always install Java and set it to not update as Shellshocks notes suggest.

Nope you dont need java. Theres a couple spots where it’ll throw errors if you dont have it installed but i just click ignore / cancel.

    Success!
I have officially joined the DIY Club, and completed my first ECU Update/Flash (04B80 to 04B81).

Thanks to @tonered , @Shellshock , and the many others (too many to name) who have so graciously contributed their time and effort to this great thread, thus making it possible for folks like myself to easily perform this otherwise 'Mysterious Art'.

I know that you guys see this as a very simple thing to do, but to a Newbie the 'unknown' never looks easy or simple beforehand. However, I did my homework, I followed all of your advice and instructions carefully, and you guys did indeed make it quite simple for me to accomplish this task.

You Gents are greatly appreciated - Thank You!

    You're welcome!

It is a very daunting task the first time.

    Enjoy the new tunes.

Looks like it doesn't recognize your cable or low battery voltage.
    • Did you download the drivers for your cable?
    • Did you choose your cable from the menu?
    • Screenshot_20201215-160053_Chrome.jpg
    • Are you connected to a battery charger?

Downloaded newest drivers in first page. I’m using OVtune cable and module. It worked on my truck. Could not connect to this truck though.

weird thing about this driver update is there was an open port 2.0 option with x64

I'll try reconnecting to my truck.

It's a 2018 SR5, I turned key to ignition on position when attempting.

Be sure that you selected the Tactrix drivers in the Setup menu / VIM.

Does this truck have a aftermarket head unit that connects to the obd2 port?
