Interesting. Ive owned my taco for 2.5 years and love it even more than the day i bought it. To me it drove perfectly fine on a stock tune, even on O4A70. After the SFOB tune its even more fun to drive, i find every excuse to go drive my truck.

IMO this truck will be as reliable as other yotas. That 3.5 is a lexus engine, and my 6spd feels very solid. Truck is aging very well.

This is my first Tacoma (2016 bought Fall 2015) but my 6th pickup. The others were all full-size. Now that I'm retired, I didn't need a full-size and also don't like how large they've become. This Tacoma is nearly as big as my 70's and 90's full-sizes (2 70's Chevys, 2 97 F150s and one 99 Dodge Ram 1500). The complaints mentioned near the beginning of this thread result from the market moving toward pickups and Jeeps and away from sedans, hatchbacks, etc. As pickups gained cruise control, power assist everything and tons of options, they are more appealing to folks who never had anything other than a car.

If you look at Jeep forums or other popular SUVs you'll see the same questions and complaints as here. Just gotta roll with it.Taco firewood.jpg

Too many mods and I haven't even started yet..
We've done quite a bit of work on our house and we haven't owned a truck until I bought the Taco last week. A Chevy Volt and VW Tiguan handled almost everything we needed. Only had to strap something to the roof once. The only time we rented a truck was to haul 5 tons of gravel for some landscaping. And frankly, for $20, I'd have rented the Home Depot truck to haul that gravel even if I had the Taco. $20 is cheap AF to beat the hell out of someone else's truck.

A truck isn't *needed*, just handy.

Props to you for a good post ... but also for impeccably stacked and strapped wood. :)

What are you talking about even a 6 foot bed isn't a real truck . You want a truck go get a 1500 or a 2500 . People love this little trucks and just cause you have a 6 foot bet doesn't make it any better than a 5 footer .

That why I always call them pickups. Having lived mostly in Montana and Colorado, "trucks" have to be over 1 ton. Everything else is just a pickup.

    I know haha!

Usually, short bed is 6 ft, long bed is 8-10 ft.

    I hear you.

however, after driving about 9 GX 460s and 470s that have well over 90k miles. I am really impressed at the build quality. They basically felt like brand new. Even With the high mileage, they were way more solid than my Tacoma.

I went back to the stock tune to sell my truck. They guy I sold it to commented on the weak feeling of the engine while we were test driving. He couldn’t get the Truck to accelerate in 5th and 6th while on the freeway, and this is something that OVtune completely fixed.

    he still bought it.

I mean, 5th and 6th are OD gears, acceleration in any vehicle in OD is gonna be poor compared to the other gears.

Makes sense - there are some things I required in my truck that there weren't that many options (locally) on used trucks. Leather and sunroof being my must-haves so I was going to buy new. Luckily I found a used one in my 2nd favorite color and I saved myself $12k+ verse buying new. But I almost bought new, so I almost fell into that stat.

It’s non existent acceleration in the 3rd gen, and I have never dealt with this in my second Gen MT or my 2 other Manual Transmission vehicles.

driving with 2.0 FOB tune was like a return to normalcy

some people's level of work is different. For anyone that needs to get lumber, haul muddy yard equipment a truck is invaluable. The HD/Lowes near me always has their truck rented out. Either way im not a fan of doing my projects on their schedule.

How about the same tired smart ass responses to every question about an issue? "Part it out."

Yeah.. that was funny the first couple of times. The 2 millionth one, not so much.

I am with you 100% ... you post that, you get an automatic 15 day ban ... I think we can all get behind that ... :)

But again, and I know I am beating a dead horse, the forum is of significant value and that value would increase by 50% if people just scrolled on by posts they didn't like ... or didn't jump into threads that they didn't see the value in. So, if Pete from Punxsutawney asks for someone's top three snow tires ... walk on by ... don't roast the poor guy ...

But what do I know. I love a good tire discussion.

My '19 DCSB OR is the first Tacoma I've owned and I think it's perfect. Before this I had two Sierra 2500HD's and a Yukon XL and I find the size of the Tacoma is just right for my needs. Enough back seat space for my kids or dog and I can fit a bike or load of firewood in the bed while sweaty riding gear doesn't stink up the cab. While I miss having a diesel, the MT more than makes up for it.

Thanks! There's a few mods on her (Marvic wheels, staintune exhaust, PCIII, Penske rear shock, radial MC up front, etc etc) but I wanted her to look at least somewhat oem on the outside. Of the V-twins I've owned the RC51 is my favorite, though when I find the right '06 SP2 in grey and black it's coming home with me too.
