My first "overlanding" to the NMW was about 1977. But we called it a fishing trip. Believe it or not, the family vehicle was an orange Pinto Station wagon:

Picture this vehicle with canoe racks. On the racks were a Montgomery Ward aluminum canoe and a long black box that held most of our camping gear. The box looked like a coffin! We could get that Pinto most places we wanted to go. It's the car with which I learned to drive! The Smittybilt winch did look a little funny on the front bumper ;-) My father was a ranger at Sebago Lake State Park, so we were able to stay at Churchill Dam for free.

Yeah, I used to do it in a shitty old Nissan pickup with 250K miles on it (and no cell phone, haha!)

Ha! It was "Datsun" in my day. We actually had a Datsun wagon after the Pinto!

Isn't 'Overlanding' without a car just called hiking?

Yeah, and with that sort of extra weight and drag getting lugged around by a 2.7 a new clutch would probably be in your immediate future too.

Same. Seen it many times over the past couple of years. Looks like whoever owns it has been well traveled too haha

New guy from Wells here. Originally from Bowdoinham. First Tacoma, and first new vehicle for me. Went from a 2012 Frontier Pro4x to a 2015 Titan SV, to this 2021 DCSB SR5. I love her!20210105_152536.jpg
My Titan got NAILED in that hail storm this summer that hit southern Maine and was going to need some work after the Rough Country leveling kit I had put in wreaked havoc on the front end components. Hoping the new rig will have no problems pulling my other ride, a Mako 18 LTS. Package weight is estimated to be around 3000lb dry, so probably closer to 3500 fueled, and rigged to fish.
    20200708_193735.jpg
In the summer months I guide fly fishing charters for stripers and blues here out of Wells, and then come September its weekend runs down to the Cape for fall Albie fishing. The Titan towed it like a champ. Have read the AT in the Tacoma is constantly shifting and searching for a favored gear while towing moderate/heavy loads. Luckily the boat launch in town is only a couple miles up Rt 1 from my house so that should be easy peasy, but towing 300 miles round trio to Falmouth, MA and back is a whole 'nother animal.

    Welcome to TW.

I spent the first 12 years or so in Bowdoinham, on Old Post Road, then in Richmond.

Welcome to the slowest thread on TW

I would imagine your truck should have no problem lugging that sort of weight around. Just keep it out of OD and leave some extra braking distance
