I wish we would too! We have plenty of mud though. I see you're not far from me. I’m about 5 minutes from Wascom, but on the LA side.

Yeah I’ve had my fun with mud, but it’s too much of a hassle to clean  Snow is usually a bit cleaner and it’s honestly just so much more fun! And nice, yeah that’s not too far away

Hey everyone, I am new to the forums. Just picked up my new 2021 army green TRD-Off Road absolutely love this color. I have a random question, I am looking to swap in the TRD pro Tail Lights in, is it straight "plug-in play" or is there any additional modding ill need to do? thanks !

As far as I know there are not any difference with the tail lights between models except for the SR.

Here's my 2021 Access Cab TRD Sport, just as it came from the dealer. It's starting to snow.

Thanks for the pics! That's the exact truck I'm getting and cannot wait!!!! I'm drooling right now.

What packages, besides the LED headlights do you have on yours? Did you specifically order it or was it on the dealer lot in that configuration?

I "built" it on the Toyota web site. Then I took the build sheet to a dealer (that I had bought from before) and he agreed to try to get it for me. I put down a deposit on Oct. 8 and I just got the truck yesterday.

It's an Access Cab in Army Green, with a manual transmission. That's a fairly rare combination. It has standard features that I'll probably never use.

I didn't order any optional packages. The LED headlights were a surprise, from the factory. The dealer didn't charge me extra for them. Price was MSRP, minus the $485 for the headlights and minus the $1,000 Toyota cash rebate.

Now the fun begins. I already bought over $1,000 in OEM Toyota parts and accessories (such as tube steps) and I'm having a $2,500 Leer cap installed on Saturday. I also plan to replace the scoop hood and the chrome tail lights.

Funny...I did the same by building exactly what I wanted and then sending that spec to dealers to find out who would offer a reasonable deal on an order. Surprisingly though I live in a large metro area with 10++ dealers within 50 miles precisely ZERO would either (a) order one, stating that "Toyota isn't allowing any Army Green orders" and/or "B" best we can do is $500 off sticker. Hard pass. Out of curiosity I checked out cars.com or something like it and found, literally, the exact spec I was looking for on a dealer lot about 200 miles away. Called, they offered a very impressive discount right away - no questions asked - and I gave them a deposit over the phone on the spot. Tint, Bed mat and Tonneau added later and I'm all set for the moment.

If you're willing to travel, it may be worthwhile to look around for the right one. In my case, it was a TRD OR DCSB 4X4 all the way loaded. No dealer add crap, but leather, JBL, MTM etc... Everything my simple old 2006 OR was missing and then some.

That's awesome to hear. I also ordered this exact configuration(only LED Headlights, access cab, manual transmission), and placed a deposit on October 26th. Hoping it gets here soon! Considering yours took about 2 months, mine should be here end of December. But we will have to see, I'm sure those vehicles need to wait for one of those huge car ships. Curious when it will be as I haven't got any updates yet(already reached out to the dealer once a couple weeks back but don't want to be annoying).

When you get the truck cap on please post pictures. I am thinking about whether I should get a cap, but am unsure. Might go with the tonneau cover instead.

Thank you for the reply and the pictures! I appreciate it!

Yeah, i had some pushback too when I placed my order. I went to a bunch of dealers and a bunch of them were saying they can't do it. Found a couple that said they'd do it, but if they do order one it would be MSRP+markup. Finally found one that was willing to order this specification for an agreed upon price for me without added bs i don't need nor want. Seems to me most dealers don't want to place orders and want to sell you stuff you don't want that's already on their lot.

(Army green access cab trd sport, manual transmission with the LED headlights as the only option).

Funnily enough they said this combination is pretty rare. I ended up searching for it for the weeks after I placed my order, just to see how rare it really was. I search on cars.com, autotrader etc and only found one in this specification(LEDS Headlights are a must for me, found plenty army green Access cabs with manual transmission without LED headlights). This vehicle, the only one I found with LED headlights was all the way in arizona. It sold within a couple days. So I do believe this specification is rare, and the dealer i ended up placing the order with was right.

Feel free to hate me, because dark shades of green are my favorite color, but I really don't like the army green tacos. It's too much dark green. Needs another color to break it up. It looks like a frog threw up some seaweed in the moonlight. I really wanted to love it, but it just isn't doing it for me.

I'm sure people also probably think that way about quicksand, which is what I have.

A taco is a taco is a taco. I'm glad some of you love army green as much as I love my taliban tan

Rare I guess, but it's not even 2021 calendar year yet...long way to go before things even get ramped up. RARER is a Toyota dealer where you will find a salesman that is eager enough to birddog the process to find what you want rather than sell what they have available. Not their fault, just a function of the machine they work in...to most, the pay's the same and to the GM, a unit's a unit, so to speak. I grew up working in dealerships. Don't get me started on my rants of how they succeed in spite of themselves sometimes, but that's a different story I don't want to get into.

Sounds like you found a good one too and AG is a color worth being methodical about finding. Unless you enjoy blending in, which is an adjustment as every other vehicle i've owned has been white/silver/gray/grayer/more grayish/black.

Yep, that's how dealerships work. Toyotas (and Tacomas in particular) are moving so fast that any special orders are a waste of time and money on their end. It's not that they don't want to sell you the truck you want, then just don't want to be bothered by you when they can bring in a bunch of generic trucks and sell them before they get off the transport truck.

When I sold industrial machinery, I had to deal with this a lot. You'd have a company wanting to buy 50 of something at retail with factory specs, and then the one small business wanting to buy one product and arguing about color or terms or whatnot. Smart business says you ditch the small guy and focus on the people that are spending easy money. Sucks sometimes, but that's the way of it.

To each their own, different strokes for differant folks!

Maybe it won't be as rare in 2021 as it is now, you might be right. I am just happy to get one that I want. First new vehicle purchase, and if i am going to eat the cost of depreciation and pay the huge sales tax I'll be damned if i don't get exactly what I want.

I wish the car buying experience was easier for "custom" orders. They make it seem so easy online, but then it's a real hassle when you go in person with the build sheet. Most dealers were very unfriendly to this. I think it might be designed that way, to make the customer annoyed. Get the customer so annoyed maybe he'll just buy something off the lot.

However, I am in no rush, and however long it takes I will wait if it means I am getting the truck I want. Toyota, and other manufacturers should follow in Tesla's footsteps where you just build it online and thats that. No dealing with scummy dealers who push you to get options/products you don't need and ultimately don't care what you want. One dealer told me "the color shouldn't matter! When youre driving in it you won't see the outside color, so just buy this grey one instead". I immediately left after that, due to him not even caring what the I, the customer wanted.

Yup, that's the feeling I got from some dealers. Especially in this climate we are currently in, where the toyota factories were closed cause of COVID. Supply is down, but the demand is still there. Tacomas sell like hotcakes, and they don't care if they lose the sale today, when the next dude will come in tommorow and buy it without asking any questions or anything.

I hear ya. For such a high volume, high demand vehicle (especially at a high overall volume dealership) like this though, I don't really blame them too much. It's just all part of the game. For right or (mostly) wrong, that's how it happens. Even if you walk in saying "I want this 'exact' build", you're frankly harder to deal with than someone who says "I want that one you have over there". Fast Nickel vs. Slow Dime as they say. Frustrating as a buyer.

I loved quicksand when I was initially shopping for my taco. While waiting for my 2017 TRD OR in MBM to arrive at the dealership, they put me in to a traded 2016 quicksand to drive and get used to. The interior color scheme was atrocious! I hope they fixed that in later model years. It was basically orange on the inside.
