why did you get rid of the 06 tacoma?
thats what i would be looking for if i had 8k to spend.
dont bury yourself in too deep with payments.
only way i would spend 30k on a truck when i only had 8k to spend
is if i knew i could make a profit on it.
    stay within your budget.

We all need micro russian 4wd monsters in our lives. Pretty sure anything that goes wrong on them can be fixed with random stuff you can find on the side of the road.

You can still get new ones too. Not sure about ever getting it road legal in the US, but you can get them.

Looking back at the OP, she mentioned the camry being the more financially sensible option of that or the tacoma... I thought she meant about gas mileage.... and not purchase cost. but yeah, the upper level Rav4's are comparable to the tacomas. Ballparking... if she got a 4 year loan (I'm adverse to longer loans... can't afford the payments for a 4yr loan, you can't afford the vehicle. This is the way) and $8k down... she's looking at almost $600 a month in payments. A mid-level camry with a price of about $27k... is a little more than $400 a month.

That $200 a month difference does seem like a lot... and if she's willing ot do that, might as well get the tacoma.

Yea I wouldn't use it for what it's for right now and I am 23 but if I get the truck I do plan on keeping it for as long as I can. Maybe life. Thats the plan. And I am very very frugal with my money thats why yea its a tough decision for me

It had several issues that frankly I got tired of worrying about and I really like how the 3rd gens look/want something newer.

Depending on where you're located in the country check put the for sale section for used 3rd gens. Might have something you're looking into. Head over to a dealership and drive a few different ones....auto, manual, 3.5 and 2.7 engines

If you really plan to keep the truck for as long as possible (aka forever), then the cost of the vehicle will be offset by the pleasure you have received driving it over the years. But the operative word is "If."

Not sure the type of lifestyle you have/where you live but onne thing to consider is perhaps what new opportunies/hobbies having a taco vs a camry would present.

I bought a truck to use realistically for house stuff, but after getting my tacoma we do way more outdoor activities/adventures than i wouldve ever thought compared to when we just had a subaru. If you start modding yeah its a money hole... but i wouldn't go back just because of the places these trucks can take you.

EDIT: also super thankful to have my tacoma during this pandemic -- we were never bored during the summer going out to to explore with the kids in remote spots where it wasn't busy. Whereas everyone without a truck/capable vehicle were stuck going to the popular spots that any ol car could take them

Side note - the best interest rate I could find this last go-round was on a 72 month. o_O No prepayment penalty so thats the one I went with, with a mental note to double the principal each month.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised. They gave me a 10-year note on my $12,000 camper. o_Oo_O What kind of crazy shenanigans is that shit? Do people really look at their statement every month and say "Score, this is only costin' me 84 dollars! Lets go out to dinner and then buy a boat!"

    a) Commute to work on a bike for ten - 30 years
    b) Live without a car.
    Since that is impractical
I would ask what your situation is with school and work, are you a graduate gainfully employed ?
And do you plan on owning a home. Just questions a man raised without a father never was asked because (no internet to help at 23). End o rant

These two raised my eyebrows.. On one hand you want to keep the new truck for life, on the other you unloaded your 06 because 3rd Gen looks..
Don't get upside-down trying to get the newest/fanciest.. If you really want 3rd gen look for a 16/17 SR5 with low miles..
