And, unfortunately, it looks like it may warm up a bit so the rest will be wet, heavy crap...

We only got 4 inches of slush in Marshvegas. Snow blower started right up an then quickly refused to throw the slush (FML). Just finished shoveling, if you can even call it that, was more like pushing slush around. Even though it is still snowing here, it's much lighter snow and it is supposed to get cold later so the slush had to go.

It's time to go for a ride!

Turns out, that plug in electric snowblower does bugger all. Cleared out the wifes car with the plow scraps behind that, but we only have about 6" so far so I just put it in 4hi and got out no problem. I'll make sure she can get in and out but....

It's going to melt off within a few days so I'm not going to worry too much about doing too much to it.

I love my new truck but miss my Tacoma
My temps are much lower on my app. The highs most days are only at the freezing point.

BTW if my kids friends try to keep messaging him on my phone while I'm sleeping they are going to get one angry guy answer that call!

yeah we're further south than you. And right on the bay, we actually stay significantly warmer than you only a few miles down the road.

Still snowing, probably near a foot or so if I had to guess without going outside (I made it into work today).

I just talked to a coworker who lives 1/4 mile from my house but on the face of the hill from the bay, he got about 2x as much snow as me. I'm protected from the wind so it's not too bad at my house, I guess.

I just got in. We had 12-15" here in Hopkinton. It was all super light and fluffy. Snowblower chewed through it. I thought its supposed to get colder later today, so I wanted to get it done before it freezes up.

Yep, looks like the warm weather is a few days off now. Just got in myself. When I inherited the snow blower, it had bolts as shear pins and one of them finally let go. So... I may or may not have replaced in kind :anonymous:

Well, if a process is working, why change it?

Edit- My Toro 724 that I used at the old house had shear pins for the drive wheels, which was a pain in the ass. I replaced them with bolts, figuring it'd break traction before it broke the solid 1" bar that it used for an axle. Never had any problems.

That's sort of what I figured, there's still a belt in there. If it gets really bound up, worst case I'll fry the belt (which is due for replacement anyways). It's a soft bolt, I doubt it's really that much stronger than a shear pin.

I'm thinking the end of this year I will get on the 'fbook or the list and find a snowblower that won't start and bank on it being the carb. That electric one was uhhhh lackluster, we'll say. But it was also the storm, I have used it in the past. It could handle all that snow if it was a bit lighter.

Those single stage snow blowers, in my opinion, have too many limitations to be useful in New England. Has to be a relatively low amount of snow, has to be dry and fluffy and you're tethered by a cord. I like my gas 2 stage and the new ones are really nice, heated grips, lights, tracks, the whole 9.

I’m in Rhode Island. I didn’t even shovel last year. We’re south of that rain snow line so 95% of the storms are mediocre. We get a few that are heavier, so it comes down to am I willing to have a beast of a blower for a 3 car drive to move 2 inches of snow. Honestly at that point I’d either just leave it or spend 5 minutes with a shovel, and the one or two storms a year that it would be useful, is it worth it.

so yeah I’ll hop on Facebook CL etc end of this season and see what I can find. I’m assuming this year is too late to find anything worthwhile, so I’ll wait until spring and summer when people are moving and nobody is buying. Storage room is about the same anyway so :notsure: problem is that makes it 3 engines I gotta worry about. Mower. Whacker. Blower.

....and then the lawn equipment too

i think next year, if god willing we've moved and have a bigger driveway, we'll invest in a snow blower

We're also looking at moving, maybe next year but probably later.

    I don't think we'll need a snowblower....

I grew up in southern NH, moved to Maine, went to school even further north into the woods of Maine. My wife....Boston. So, she's a city girl, I am a country boy. We landed on Providence. Small enough that I can handle being in the "city". We visited Austin, it's a nice city but....massive. So, I was hesitant until I saw this:

    upload_2020-12-17_14-13-9.jpg

    Austin is on the left.
    1. Population density....way better, so the city itself is bigger, but way less dense, and
    2. basically "downtown" Austin is Providence, and The rest of Austin is Warwick, Cranston, East Prov, Barrington, Seekonk, etc. Austin is so big, I was talking about it in the MTB thread - Autin is so big, you go from downtown out to the 'burbs, around here that's Boston to Andover. In Austin....That's just still Austin.

If you want a big "holy crap" moment. DFW area in TX - 7.5million people, 9.2k square miles

Mass. 10.5k sq mi, 6.9 million

Just one metro area is nearly the size of Mass.

And Texas is BITCHIN. I was there for a few days last year between christmas and new years (took that time off, visited, before the 'rona). And then I went on my road trip in July in the middle of the heat, loved every minute of it, both times.

Wife is back in school in January at Tufts, so it doesn't make sense to skee-daddle until 2 years from now, plus some other stuff that makes sense to stick around until 2023 ish timeframe. But I can't wait. I will probably be taking a road trip there in March if I can swing it. Amarillo, though, 7 hours north of Austin  but I'd probably at least go from Amarillo to DFW > Houston > Out to GA/FL again on the way back up. The trip up is TBD, the trip out there is all new areas again, down to DC (went around it last time), into TN, then out to Bentonville, AK and into Amarillo.

Anyway I'm way off on a tangent here.

yeah the cities in the south are more spread out. i was in the charlotte city limits but about 20 min from downtown and almost in sc.

i've been to austin a couple of times, getting hungry thinking about it
