So now the question is what gear set- 4.56 or 4.88?

On 35’s, gonna be a little heavy at around 650lbs extra all the time. Need to be able to haul the tractor if need be, but haven’t had to yet so not critical. I drive like a granny. My commute is 15 minutes and 55mph. I drive five over everywhere. For personal preference, I didn’t think 33’s with stock gears was too bad. Definitely not bad enough to spend the money to regear. 35’s are getting old really fast though. Damn sure don’t want to do this twice. Haha

 

I’m on 5.29 and only 4 speed transmission. I run about 3100 rpm at 80mph which ain’t too bad. If yo went 4.88 and you have an extra gear I bet you’d be about 2700-2800 rpm at 80mph. I always say overgear and underpowered lol

They suggest 4.88 for me and I’m not even on 35’s.

At this point either will be a huge improvement I’m sure, but I think with all the weight 4.88 won’t leave me wondering...

Do you know anything about the solid spacer they have as an option?

 

Yes upgrade to the solid spacer. I did

All that means is it has 8 holes in the flange for the mounting bolts. One set for 8 inch ring and one for 9.5 ring is the most common.

 

All new to me. Is one better than the other or specific to what I need?

 

No need for double drilled, just order for your year and model unless you are using a different driveshaft. Where are you ordering from?

 

ECGS, stock driveshaft. Not sure why they have the option.

 

The option is for people like me that has an 89 Land Cruiser rear axle hooked to a 94 4Runner front driveshaft and a 85 4Runner front axle hooked to a 84 Toyota truck rear driveshaft, all in a 88 Suzuki Samurai. It gives you the option to move things around if needed.

If you are wanting to buy call ECGS and talk to one of their techs, they do this everyday and can and will answer all your question and will tell you what they think is the best and why it is.

It will be a lot cheaper to send yours in for new gears than it will be to build one.
