Maybe I'm late to the convo but windoors CAN be added after the fact to the snugtop Rebel model. Not sure about others but i can confirm that on the rebel model they CAN be added later. Kind of pricy but i think it's worth it.

I'm going to be even later to the convo. I called my local dealer a month or two ago and gave them my S/N for my Snugtop Rebel that I bought Feb 2020. They told me my windows could not be swapped out for windoors because the mold was different. Guess it depends on the year and options you have?

    Did you do the swap?

I ended up selling my topper and got a bakflip cover which suits my needs better. But... I did call a few dealers and because of my serial number they also said mine was one of the few that could not be adapted for windoors.

I just heard from A.R.E that the vented Windoors are not available in Short Bed Tacoma caps if that helps any.

Currently going through this. I inquired about it through a local cap supplier and they asked me for my cap's serial number. It seemed all was well, they asked me no more questions and I assumed it was going to work out fine. A few months later it shows up but it doesn't fit. There are big gaps so it's obvious the cut out is slightly different. I am waiting on Leer to figure it out it but I have a feeling they are going to email me asking if the cap had slider windows originally (which is the case) and that I am SOL because you can't put in windoors after having the sliding window template cut.
Hoping they make different versions/sizes of the windoor and that I just got the wrong one, but I am not holding my breath.
I will update for anyone else who has been wondering, but I imagine it will be a while before a hear back.

I don't have LEER, but a Snugtop. I bet the same would happen to me if I ordered one because they told me it wouldn't fit.
I appreciate the pic because I was wondering how close it would be (assuming mine would be similar). I thought about buying the windoors, mounting it with new holes, and then filling in the gaps. Not ideal, but could get the job done.

How much did they charge you for the windoors, if you don't mind?

I paid ~450 canadian. Pricey but I need the access. I was thinking about what it would take to fill in the gaps, but I think selling the cap and putting the money towards one with windoors would be the better option

I was going to do this and just make some gap covers out of aluminum. ARE does this with their MX shell on the newer ones being produced. I think it's just a vanity cover (no hole through the fiberglass), but you could easily make something similar to cover the gap.

The dealer ordered my Leer incorrectly, I was supposed to have vented windoors and ended up with the normal windoors. We have new vented windoors ordered, hoping for a better outcome...

i wonder if the vented windoors have a different cut out compared to the non vented version. im curious if they send me the non vented version next.

LEER was not helpful, the dealer (it is their mistake) reached out directly to the window manufacturer. Looks like the specs for the vented / non-vented windoors are the same, so we’re hoping they fit. Should have the replacements in January.

My local ARE dealer said yes. Quoted me $510 per side for a vented windoor. I ended up buying an aluminum cap and will be posting mine for sale once I reach the required posts

I actually went to a local ARE dealer because my passenger windows got blown out due to Hurricane Zeta a couple months back. I asked if I could order the Windoors vs the regular sliding windows. He quoted me $450 I think for the Windoors or $150 or $175 for my original sliding windows. That’s a lot of money, 25% of what I paid brand new. If I was living out of my truck or going on a one year overlanding excursion I think it would be worth it but ballpark $450 is just too much for me to spend. I’d rather buy more Crypto-currency and watch it sky rocket!

Following up on this, apparently leer typed in the serial number wrong the first time around and they have since discovered that windoors cannot be installed on my canopy.
I think I am going to try and fit it regardless. I really want the side access and I think I should be able to fill the gaps while making it look somewhat stock. I'll post photos on what i did but its probably gonna be a summer project.

started working on it. I am sure there are a myriad of different ways to go about this but finding the best one or finding someone attempting something similiar has been difficult.

I have gone about trying using epoxy putty (jb waterweld) on one side to close it in the half an inch it needed. seems to work pretty well and seems plenty strong so far. gonna sand it down tomorrow and see what it looks like and how strong it is.
the other side needs to be built up about an inch and a half so i might have to go about that side another way. the good thing is the original slider window cutout is close enough the the original fibreglass in the canopy is still going to be holding 98%of the load. I chose waterweld because it said it bonds to fibreglass specifically.

I started with cardboard templates to figure out exactly how much to build it up. I mash the putty onto the inside on the cardboard and let it harden, then remove the tape and cardboard and match it on the outside. My hope is that after I sand it down it won't just fall off but I guess we will see. If that happens I suppose I will still have a perfect plug made from the putty that I can just glue to the inside edge.

sanded it down. still seems pretty solid but there is some very slight flexing I am afraid with cause issues down the road so i think i am gonna add a layer of fibreglass to the outside to try and add some strength. my only worry is it will add too much thickness in the corner which wont allow the window to sit flush and prevent water intrusion.

attacked the main gap on the lower rear corner. Using, again, a totally different method. this time it is marine-tex and some steel caging to act as a backing. This stuff hardens rock hard just like the JB weld products have and is also designed to work with fibreglass so I don't see why it won't work. Gonna let it set for 24 hours and then plaster a bunch more onto it and then wait some more. should just need some sanding and then I just have one more corner to work in. then hopefully I can put the windoor in for a test fit. 20201227_151445.jpg

marine tex is working well. got a bunch more slabbed on and smoothed out. another day of waiting and i can go at it again for hopefully the last time. so far i think marine-tex has been the best option. great consistency to work with, sets quick, and bomber strong/sandable/paintable in the end.

test fitted and got a cut out line. closing in on the end. I think i'll have a bit more marine tex"ing" to do but its getting real close. gonna give it 48 hours to cure before i cut it with a dremel.
