PXL_20201214_005304299.jpg Did a mount for my son of his first deer. Same plaque shape my dad used starting in the late '50's. Used to have a label maker to do the info portion, but that is long gone. Also used to put velvet around the skull portion (hands don't work as well as they used to do for detailed cutting/gluing) but just painted it instead.

How the hell can you still see an hour after sunset? We can legally hunt 30 mins after sunset and usually by then it’s too dark to see anything anyway.

But yea, I gut them where they drop, or if it’s too close to a bedding or feeding area ill drag them a short way and gut them. I usually have quite a haul back to the truck and it just makes it so much lighter for the drag. Unless I’m on private with a tractor or 4wheeler. Then I may let the processor do it if that’s where I’m taking it.

I can drive pretty much up wherever I need. I don't hunt way back in any woods. We've got roads around the fields. Deer come out of the woods to us. We're hunting beside a state park, so no shooting while they're still in there.

low light scopes and open fields.

My buddy is doing a euro on it for him as well since it was his first buck with horns. He shot a button head last year, we thought it was a doe.

Fields definitely make a difference. I’m always in woods, and usually pretty thick. I typically start climbing down about 15 mins after official sunset because it gets too dark to see more than about 10-15 yards. My Nikon scope does really well in low light conditions, just not well enough to see after that lol

i usually like to stay in the full hour as well, just to make it easier to not spook anything.
