I use the Lee Factory Crimp Dies for any crimping I do. You dont need a cannelure on the bullet. It really doesnt take much to keep the bullets seated at the correct lengths even with my 45-70 (marlin 1895 lever), 458socom, 44mag "hotter loads". I just do a light crimp on them and have never measured any setback when I have checked the last rounds out of the tube/magazine/cylinder.

RCBS Die set 20904 is listed as having a Roll Crimp die. Roll crimps are generally best used with a cannelure. BUT you can still lightly roll crimp bullets without cannelure. Just follow the directions for setting the crimp from RCBS but just start out light. It wont take much turning to adjust the crimp so just go slow to get how much crimp you want. The rounds ive roll crimped on non-cannelure bullets have been just as accurate as taper crimps and no crimp.

I only prefer the LFCD's since they tend to be a bit less case length dependent. Roll crimping Ive found really prefers equal case lengths while taper doesnt mind a bit more play in the length department.

but like most things reloading related...google it and youll get every answer under the sun on it. The above is just my personal experience :)

Well that saves me some typing. I x2 with this guy. If you’re going to crimp try to do it in a separate step and use the Lee FCD, one of the few useful Lee products.

I do a little more than plink so I’ve been invested more for awhile. I have to worry about run out, setting specific neck tension, maintaining bullet form factor, etc. Its also why I don’t understand how all these fairly new reloaders are “saving money.” I haven’t saved shit. The only thing that pays itself off is having low ES. I can’t do that with Lee, or rcbs.

Lever action with tube magazine, always crimp. Especially for heavy recoil rounds.
You will definitely get bullet setback in the magazine, assuming it's a tube magazine, if you don't.
If it's a BLR, Savage 99 or Winchester 1895 with a magazine, then you don't have to.

45-70 is a straight wall case, like most pistol rounds. Sizing/decapping, expanding, seating/crimping.

This is all great advice. I crimp everything. Depending on what I’m reloading I’ll use very light crimp to a stronger one. Roll crimp and tapered crimps. I do like the Lee factory crimp dies too. I always separate bullet seating and crimping stations.

I think .380 is a very logical round to reload. Loaded .380 ammo is real expensive, and you can reload it for peanuts. I'd be broke if I didn't the way my wife goes through them.

Would anybody be interested in buying a Little Crow Gunworks Worlds Finest Trimmer in .308?

I bought one because I have a ton of .308 that needs trimmed and the .300BLK one I have works great... or so I thought until I went to pull it out when I setup this one and realized the one I already have is .308 (it's been a while since I've done any reloading and apparently my memory is a little fuzzy).

I have trimmed 50-60 pieces of brass with it and it works great, consistent within a couple thousandths.

I paid $70 plus shipping for it so I'd like to get my $70 back out of it and I will take care of shipping wherever I can ship a flat rate envelope. It's even dialed in at ~2.005" for you.

20201218_180444.jpg I rarely purchase loaded ammo anymore but will on occasion if waiting for gear or components. Sometimes a deal is hard to pass up. Little under $15.00 a box for this 300 WSM clearance at Walmart. And it just happens that after I found a recipe for the rifle, Accurate Powder discontinued 3100. I purchased the 40 S&W because I'm not finding good results with a HK USP 40 I purchased. Found loads that work in a used M&P40 LE trade in so I don't know what the deal is with this HK
