I’ve got the exact same MTD with the original Tec snow king on it...it will move some serious snow and make you deaf at the same time! I repowered my Ariens 724 with a HF Honda clone after the snow king burned a valve and it’s a much more pleasant machine to use now lol

I can't even dream of the uncountable thousands of tons of snow this old girl has moved all these years. She has been an incredible work horse, still starts first try and uses no oil. As an added bonus MTD parts are cheap and easy to find.

Thank you for the pointers. I did the fluid and filter change yesterday with the Cub oil and a Stens filter from Amazon. The Stens looked identical to the OE filter I pulled off from what I could see from the outside looking in. I only got 5 qts into the hydro but after I did the change after getting the air out, it is pulling very hard.

Is there a proper way to burp the hydro system? It seems like it's not really sealed because I'm sure the dipstick seal isn't great, so maybe burping isn't needed? The fluid is frothy when I check it is all.

My brother has a 2012 6.7 I believe, but it is tuned and deleted. He loves it. Has 6 figures of mileage on it and no problems. It is loaded and towing all the time, too.

I have a 2016 350 SRW work truck with the 6.2. With all my gear it weighs 9000 lbs. I like the engine a lot. It's not a race car but it's plenty powerful to move 9k with authority. I don't have anything real heavy to pull, but if I were getting an HD truck I'd get gas because of the upfront cost and the crackdown on diesel tuning. Also, I have never worked on diesels before but I'm very comfortable with gas engines. The new ford 7.3 looks promising and Chevy has said they will make an even larger one.

IMO, the roles have flipped as modern diesels are getting crammed with new technology and aside from DI, gas engines have not changed much in quite a while.

Since we are talking snow blowers, here is my 1971 Ariens. Just got it last year and this was my first time using it. It's slow but it just keeps going. The engine bogs down but it never seems to lose power. It's a 6hp Tecumseh and has the optional manual diff lock, visible on the left wheel. I used to have a 42" 3 stage unit on the front of my XT3. It was not worth it at all.

Bought a narrow trench bucket for my backhoe but it didn't have teeth. I found a bundle of teeth for cheap on local classified ads

Thing is that they don't fit perfectly. Is it possible to grind the opening of the teeth to make it deeper or trim the bucket shanks to get the teeth to fit more snug? Or it is not recommended?

not a lot to remove though, 1/4 should be enough

12.5 here on the South Shore of MA. YUCKY. Just got a metal roof so it was funny to see and hear it slide off..as well as not have to climb up there and shovel.

I had an old Ariens, 4HP..had to be late 80's and it sucked, but I think the motor was just tired on top of being underpowered. Got a Simplicity 24" 5 years ago right before the horrible winter here and it was well worth every penny.

I'm glad it's working right. Sometimes they have moisture build up which can freeze and cause problems in the winter. I changed my oil at 30 and will again at 100hrs. Then every 100 with Rotella. Forget the gold plated Cub oil.

These are self purging. Just drive it fwd and back. Oil will be high when it's hot. Check it cold. These are really tough hydros and differentials. Most last a lifetime if serviced regularly. They can take heavy use. My 3240 has a different hydro bolted to the same rear differential you have and it does this type stuff.

Sounds like my trans, too. What grade of Rotella do you use and why? I never did a break in service on mine, which probably contributed to the situation. I also pulled a 60" swisher trail mower around for the past 2 years. That thing is pretty heavy, but it was nice cutting about 100" per pass.

What's your opinion of the XT3 overall? I read somewhere it was just a renamed 2000 series. I was thinking the other day I really wished there was a sub compact tractor, maybe even a little smaller, with a gas engine. I really don't want to mess with diesel. Looks like your 3000 might fit the bill.

It does alright. The "mechanic" that I bought it from couldn't figure out why it didn't like to run on no choke. I got it home and found the inside of the fuel lines so tuned up I don't think you could blow through it. Runs great now, and I added a ln on-line fuel filter.

Are they tight where they are? Can you weld them? Probably be a while before they need replacing again, won’t it?

I have a plow on my tractor for doing the driveway now, but the snowblower is still my favourite piece of winter equipment/toy. Any excuse I can find to run it, I do. Pathway to the oil tank. Pathways to the sheds. Loop around the property for the dogs. Throwing back the windrows that the plow leaves to keep the driveway from narrowing as winter progresses. There's just something so deeply satisfying watching snow flying out of the chute. Have a Toro Powershift 11/32, and recently inherited my dad's 24 inch Troybilt, which is just a relabeled MTD. It's my preferred machine now. Smoother, quieter, doesn't wear me out like the big Toro, and it takes whatever is in front of it. Power steering and heated hand grips are nice too. Takes a few minutes longer to get the job done, but don't feel near as beat up after using it.

Have an old MTD track drive blower that somebody left beside the dumpster at my ladies dad's warehouse back in Calgary. One of the sprockets had come off the shaft and dropped the chain. Fixed that up, put a new carb on the 8HP Techumseh, and it's good as new.

Brought her dad's 24 inch 8 horse Ariens that he used on the buildings walkways home after he sold the building. Hadn't been used in a few years. Again, new carb, changed the oil, and it's running strong. Those older Ariens are very well built machines, and can command a good dollar on the used market. That's where this one will be heading unfortunately. The lady is not pleased with my growing snowblower and 2-stroke Lawnboy mower collection.
