Ryan has mentioned in a few videos abt being on TRT himself.

Regardless, his info is good and you still have to put in the work to get the results.

I only really care about numbers when it comes to tracking where I am and knowing how and if I improve, but overall I care very little about exact numbers and only care I’m enjoying myself, challenging myself, and see myself progressing towards my goals.

I think what is more important than hitting big numbers is just being happy with where you are, and don’t let anyone minimize that.

When your dos buttholio amigo starts saying stuff like, “I get a belly quick man” and “testosterones coming out your buttholes” that’s a good sign you should probably go believe what the multitude of actual bodybuilders and sports nutritionists say instead lol.

    @mindstar and @Supra TT

I’m doing a hypertrophy program, and I don’t like to change the programs because it was obviously written by someone more qualified than me, but it has me doing some calf work at 3x6-8 reps RPE 8-9.
I kinda don’t want to do that. I’m not a fan of overloading my calves. Plus if I trash my calves lifting it can fuck with any trail running.

    What say you?

Can I switch to 15-25 rep ranges. I didnt think calves responded to low rep ranges anyways.

True, nothing has flown out of my buttholes, exploded yes, nothing has taken flight.

My experience in calve training is there are 2 ways to get them bigger. The first is being a big fat bastard and walking around like that all day every day. The second is Tempo work with high reps (think 1 second up, pause for 3, 1 second down, pause for 3)...unfortunately, if it's enough to make em grow, it's enough to fuck your running.

I've also had some success in calf raises in the squat rack with your feet flat on the floor....no going to the stretch position...though I know this seems to be against the conventional wisdom.

The other thing to think about is from a classic BB standpoint, calf girth should match your biceps. So just stop doing curls and your calves will look proportional.

I have no interest in really building mass in my calves. I’m genetically blessed. I just care about not totally neglecting them.

I like the squat rack idea. Right now must of my calf work has been between sets on the leg press. I like killing two birds with one stone.

If it's just about maintenance, given the work you put in on them running, I might do them every other week if that...unless they are lagging or you want HUUUGE COWS, they don't need a lot. I don't really do them at all anymore, as they are big enough for me, and they get some work in all squats, hiking, etc.

The real thing with calf training is to take the stretch reflex out of it...they are evolved to be springs basically, so hold the top of the rep and dont bounce out of the bottom.

When I broke my foot and had it repaired I had to work on ankle strength and mobility and I did a lot of ankle/calf rehab exercises where you do full ROM slow w high reps. Thats was probably great for teaching me not to bounce on calves.

It also works the tibialis anterior to slow down

I just assume I caught it already but was asymptotic or whatever. Cause this is twice now that someone I work with side by side or hangout with outside of work has caught it and I tested negative both times. Like maybe you get immune to it after catching it. Idk.

Why cant I find @strengthordie post of his side by side???

Left is recent, posted here. Right is 2016 probably at my heaviest. I still have that shirt I will have to try to recreate the side by side better. I wasnt treating myself right, still eating like a rugby player but not burning calories like one.

I've determined the gym is my church. I'm not religious (anymore) but I like working on myself with the holy trinity of weight machines, iron, and body weight. Peace be with me when I am in there. And I can feel it when I'm not in there. When I'm day to day lifting and handling other things.

When I need motivation I look at the pic on the right. It's not a matter of self loathing or anything like that, it's that I feel so much better today. And i wanna keep feeling great.
