No clue, if you ask em. My salesman said normally it takes a week.or two after it's built. I mean, he would know I guess based on experience. But I just have a feeling it will take longer.

Also if you go onto Cars.com and do an Advanced Search for Manual Transmission Tacoma's you will find several with a VIN# starting with 3 which means Mexico so there are some out there.

Right, that is changing now due to the Tacoma being phased out from production in Texas.

    Right.

Toyota has a new Tundra and a new Sequoia in the pipe line. But here's Toyota's dilemma. It's not efficient for Toyota to produce the Sequoia in Indiana (which is where it's always been assembled) because it shares so much DNA with the Tundra (which was moved from Indiana years ago). It's a body-on-frame vehicle that really doesn't belong at that plant anymore. Indiana produces the Highlander and Sienna as well....both which are selling well...especially the Highlander. Toyota needs more Highlander production. There was thought of moving some Highlander production to Kentucky. But with Camry/Hybrid, Avalon/Hybrid, RAV4 Hybrid, Lexus ES/Hybrid, Kentucky's plate is full.

So....move the new Sequoia to Texas where it belongs....along side it's stable mate the Tundra. This in turn frees up production for Indiana to produce more Highlanders and Siennas....both which are uni-body construction.

But in order for all this to happen something in Texas has to give. Tacoma production was only brought there because GM left the NUMMI plant in California during the Great Recession. So to meet the demand of the Tacoma, Toyota moved it to the then new Tundra plant. It was more than likely always going to be a temporary thing.

There's already a supply chain set up in the southern US for Tacoma production. All parts come from the same suppliers regardless of the assembly point...Mexico or Texas. So it makes sense for Toyota to bring a 2nd plant in Mexico on line to take over Texas production.

Zero US jobs will be lost. In fact, some will be gained in Indiana.

These threads are always the same with racist undertones implying that Mexican workers are somehow inferior. Nonsense. The Toyota Production System knows no boundaries or ethnicities. TPS is the culture.

Most definitely makes business sense for them to juggle and shift production around to be most beneficial. Back when Yahoo allowed comments l argued with several people trying to explain there would be no lost jobs in Texas but they just couldn't grasp it. I was thinking GM quit NUMMI partnership because they killed off Pontiac, think they did some rebadged Toyota's for awhile.

NUMMI produced several different vehicles over the years with the bread and butter being the Corolla which also spawned some rebages...the Chevy Nova, Geo Prism, Chevy Prism. The Vibe (mechanical twin to the Matrix) and Tacoma were produced there as well. There were some bit players in the mix....the very short lived JDM Toyota Cavalier (Fremont was a Cavalier plant before Toyota showed up) and the JDM Vitz (mechanical twin to the Vibe).

Once GM killed Pontiac and Geo that technically left GM with no NUMMI produced vehicles. They quickly rebaged the Geo Prism as the Chevy Prism. But the writing was on the wall. Once the Great Recession hit, GM made sure walking away from the NUMMI plant was included in the bankruptcy. They basically walked away from NUMMI with zero responsibility.....leaving hundreds of unionized GM workers with nothing. At that point it made no sense for Toyota to stay there. Toyota paid the GM workers a severance package as appreciation for the years of service. GM never did.

Corolla production was moved to Mississippi and Tacoma production to Texas.

A few years later, Toyota basically gave Telsa the NUMMI plant in exchange for battery technology.

So the question is --- is a Japanese truck (whos parts come from all over) built better in the US or Mexico ? I'm sure that Toyotas QC is the same at each location .

My 2020 MT is a guanajuato truck. Only 2500 miles in but everything seems fine to me. Granted I've OVTuned and lifted it and dod the ADM mod so it would be hard to say if any future issues were factory related or my own fault

I just took delivery of a 2021 TRD OR 6MT which was built in Guanajuato. From what I understand at this point the only Tacomas still being built in Texas are TRD Pros and a few odd trim levels.

At any rate, 85 miles in and no issues upon delivery either cosmetically or mechanically.

I had a 18 4x4 sport baja built just had two complaints. Roof weather strip was loose, dealer fixed. Also my tailgate plastic looked melted. Other than that a solid 25,000 miles.

This has nothing to do with racist remarks. I'm sure toyota has certain qc standards set that must be met at all plants before the vehicle is finished. Maybe just me, but i feel our u.s. workers should come first when deciding where your new truck is built.
