I have heard that if you take a metal bake pan and fill it with coffee grinds and chop some apples up and lay them in the pan also that that will help.
I filled 2 tube socks up with fresh coffee and cut up apples and that helped quite a bit. Tied the ends off and threw them under the seat. Also you may try charcoal bisquets and put them in a bake pan also and put it on the floorboard in the back seat. The charcoal will help with removing the smell but not sure if it is a permanent solution. Or charcoal, coffee and cut up apples in a sock under the seat.

Smoke is a very pervasive substance. It sticks to everything. When I bought my Tacoma, the dealer did a good job of masking the cigarette odor of the previous owner, but it quickly came back and became nearly unbearable for my wife and me.
I did a lot of research and found that VINEGAR was my savior.
First clean every surface in your truck, then wipe down every surface with a rag that has been soaked in vinegar. A lot of people think that the smoke smell sticks to only the fabric, when in reality it sticks really really well to all of the plastic and leather. The vinegar is great at removing odors from plastics and leather and it will not harm either.
I even put a diluted mixture of water and vinegar in a spray bottle and sprayed the carpeting and upholstery. Then I left the rag soaked with vinegar in the cup-holder for about a day.
The result was a truck that now smelled like a pickle instead of cigarette smoke! The pickle smell faded after only a few days and now my truck smells like there was never a smoker in it.

I wish I knew this trick back when I was a car detailer!

Good luck with your smoke removal and for your and your trucks sake, I hope you are able to quit smoking.

A previous car of mine was owned by a smoker before I bought it. My buddy runs a dry cleaning business and they use an ozone generator to get the smell out of smoke damaged clothing and drapes. It's about the size of a small suitcase. We put it in my car for about 6 hours and the smell was completely gone and never came back.

I think fabreeze (for cars/trucks)does a pretty good job of neutralizing odors... It's worth a try.

Yeah the dealer said that about my truck when I bought it. Reeked of smoke and had a hole in the seat from the fucker. Said the put the ozone thing in there...smelt just like it did before hand.

    Time...time gets the smell out.

FYI, when you see a vehicle with a drooping headliner, it's a near 100% safe bet that it's a smoker's car. The smoke causes the glue holding the fabric to the backing to deteriorate.

My mom used to work at a military hospital on Fort Bliss. She got a huge promotion and had to move to Seattle in the following two weeks. The military took forever to move the rest of the house (litterally, several months). Well, when my mom moved she forgot the freezer full of elk and deer meat in the garage that belonged to my dad 8 years prior to her move. Apparently, she never cleaned it. Three months after moving, I went to her old house and the place REAKED of rotten meat. You could smell it from the outside. The movers gave us the common ideas -- coffee, apples, charcoal. What ended up working best for us was leaving liquid Chlorox out in buckets around the house. I've heard Pine Sol works, too, but I can't vouch for that.

You may want to try giving it a shot. It would work better if you could leave it in there longer than overnight (if this isn't your daily driver).

Has anyone suggested to stop smoking?

If you are the casual smoker like I used to be, just give it time. If you are a heavy smoker then you are probably never getting rid of the smell, I think ShaLor is on to something. You can't just put something in there, you need a deep surface cleaning of everything and the seats. Then try an air-freshener or odor-eater substance, not just some scented thing that just stinks up the place.

Agree with the ozone generator suggestion, which I've used many times before on vehicles. However for it to work properly, it's important to first give the car a good cleaning (including carpets). Leave the ozone generator on for about 15 minutes while the car is idling AND the ventilation system is recirculating air. Then leave the doors closed for a few more hours.

I bought a 2002 Nissan SC Frontier 4 door that smell like a ash tray. We rented a steam cleaner and could not believe it but the seats had stripes that you could not see. After cleaning and spraying with everthing the stores had to offer it still smelled like a ash tray. We even burned incence in it for days. After 2 years of driving it it still smelled.........good luck

Gee, ShaLor, I sure hope this works! When I test drove my "new" 07 taco, Belle, she looked and smelled clean and performed like a NEW truck. Because I added accessories that had to be ordered and installed I picked her up one week later. For some ASSinine reason, the dealer sent the ALREADY clean Belle to Detail. So, when I arrived to pick her up and opened the door a stale, offensive odor slapped me in the face. I thought I MUST be coincidentally smelling some surrounding odor, ignored it and drove home to pick up some family for a test drive. By the time we were all in the truck and drove about 15 minutes we ALL felt sick with one enduring a severe headache. While we were willing to wait out a day or two of fading odor, it is NOT fading and we get sick within a few minutes. Since none of us is a smoker I am not sure it is stale cig smoke. It smells more to me like dirty, moldy carpet filter dust you find at car wash vacuums. I've already emailed the dealer about this problem and plan to take Belle to MY Detailer to see if he can clean whatever the HELL the dealer "detailed" INTO my near excellent taco. However, if your vinegar idea works, maybe I should try it, first. What do you think? Has anyone else experienced a situation where a CLEAN vehicle came back from a professional detailing job so much worse it made occupants ill?
