New tires were installed today. The roads are covered in salt and tons of snow is expected tonight which will make a mess. How exactly should I go about a chalk test in winter? I'm thinking about using blue chalk from a chalk line. I'll never see white chalk on my tires with all the salt on the road. Anyone have any hints?

If you're driving through snow, then the chalk test won't be valid anyway.

You can't check for uneven wear if you're driving on an uneven surface to begin with...

They are new tires. He is trying to determine the proper air pressure.
That depends on the tire size though. My 255/85-16 run at 42 +/- 2 psi.

I know, but the chalk test relies on the chalk wearing off evenly after driving on even roads...

Yes, new tires. They are LT235/85/16 General Grabber AT2s. The shop filled them to 25. I don't know why. That's way too low. They'll take 80 psi so I need to find the sweet spot. 15 inches of snow coming tonight. So far, impressed by the incredible traction this size and style offers.

Can you give me some feedback on the winter traction?

Or anyone else for that matter.

I sell a lot of the General Grabber SRL (Red Label) and I haven't gotten much feedback on the wet/ice/snow traction.

    Any help would be awesome.

I just noticed my alignement seems to be off due to this method also.

DO NOT USE RED !!!!!!

The pigment used in the red is more perminant than the blue. Once that red gets on your truck you will regret it.

I spent many years in the construction industry doing layout, and used many gallons of both red and blue chalk in my chalk boxes. We only used red when we wanted something to last a very long time.

    Trust me on this one.........
