Ryzen 7 3800x, 32gb Corsair RAM, 500gb SSD (NvME), Gigabyte MOBO, Lian Li case, Radeon 480gt (I think) video card. I'm happy so far with it. I need to get a better monitor some time soon.

Any one have trouble with email notifications? Mine stopped randomly the other day. Checked the settings and it's all on. Make me feel old and stupid, c'mon!

Just curious, how much did that rig set you back? Sounds like gobbly-gook to me but I used to be into that stuff once upon a time. I do need to replace my wife's computer with a laptop, but it just needs to essentially check e-mail. She is decidedly non-techy.

It's way overkill for just checking e-mail! I'd have to do some math, but I think I spent around $1100. If I had to buy a video card it probably would've been $1500 or so.

You talking about notifications on iPhone or computer? I’ve been having notification issues on my iPhone recently.
I just bought a pretty solid gaming laptop for $1300 (10th gen i7, 16gb ram (upgradeable), nvidia rtx2070 max-q,1TB nvme ssd (upgradeable),240hz 1080 15” monitor). You probably just missed most sales but I’m sure you can find some good ones for sub $1k. If I wasn’t using it for gaming or anything that required a good GPU then I’d still be rockin a 13” ultra book though. Can’t beat the weight/performance ratio of those.

If you want the best value then I’d look for minimum intel i5 cpu, 8gb ram, and an SSD. Whatever brand has the best price with those specs at your store of choice.

Email notifications from TW. I haven't gotten a single one for two days.

I recently bought a new laptop searching for these specs. I don’t want some cheap crap but I also don’t need anything fancy. I ended up with a Lenovo thinkpad T590. This is like the shit we used in school lol so not sexy but supposedly rugged enough to deal with my garage nonsense.

I have never used a Lenovo but I have heard good things. I know a few people with their x1 carbon which is super nice but I’m sure the quality translates to their entire lineup.

I don’t think you can really go wrong with any of the big brands but that’s just me. I use Dell and HP at work and my newest personal computer is an Asus ROG which I am a fan of so far.

I haven't either but a bunch of articles said they were the best business laptops, and some names the X1 Carbon. It looks like a really nice computer.

I'm on an Asus right now and I've been less than impressed after 3 years of owning it. Overall it's nice and sleek but I've had the most minor issues from day 1. Like the sound card will randomly not work and I'll have to reset the laptop, little things like that. But this is just a run of the mill ~$750 laptop. I bet their gaming laptops will be much nicer though, as those are always built way better than the average PC.

Haha yeah that’s what I’m hoping. The reviews were solid but it could definitely change after a couple years. I am totally into the gaming PC now and plan on building a desktop at some point as my dedicated gaming computer so as long as this asus runs for 2+ years I’ll be happy haha

Decent specs except the video card.

Ryzen 5000 processors were released last month, but basically unavailable. They're a pretty good uplift in performance over the 3000 processors. Current gen graphics cards are the Nvidia 3000 and Radeon 6000 series, but again they're out of stock everywhere unless you want to way overpay from a scalper.

My friend gave me the video card for free, so I'm not complaining. He just started a new build and he got lucky and snatched up a Ryzen 5000 from Amazon the other day. I'm hoping he'll get a new video card and I'll end up with his old one again!

I can wait for supply to catch up. I don't have the time to game. I just did this because my 10-year old Asus laptop was on its way out. It was cheaper than buying another laptop with higher stats.

I got a refurb Think Pad for the garage. I love it. It's the 2nd one I've had for out there. Both of them have been durable for a business laptop. The older one still works, it was just getting outdated and slow.

My pc build was for the same reason. My old HP laptop was on its way out. I may pick up new gen processor and graphics card next year if I think I need to performance upgrade. Maybe wait for the next generation releases.

Also, meant to ask, what speed ram you're running.. AMD processors like fast ram (3200+).

Couldn't tell yea.. the only emails I have set up to get are DM/PM/conversations (think they are all the same thing). Other than that, I just check in here every few days and see if I have any alerts, or to catch up.
