^ Been doing it that way since that the little drain thingy first made of fool out of me in 2014. Not really any different than pulling off a disposable can, aside from the fact they're usually mounted horizontally.

Now, forget to pull that little red cap off the air vent on your drain pan and see what happens. lol

@jmneill I dont wanna!! Its time to sip some smooth whiskey and feel good about 1st oil change on the ‘coma. Oh, and btw, upon further TW searching, scuffing up the dipstick with 110 grit paper made that line REAL visible! Turns out I’m about 1/8 inch below the mark. Will check it when things warm up a bit and maybe top off or leave as is depending.

Thanks for all the contributions here! Turned this question thread into a real DIY discussion.

    Cheers :drunk:

I find all the combo storage/drain pans too shallow and cause too much splashing. I just use a cheap 2-gallon open-top drain pan with a spout :notsure: I bought mine at a local store, but there are multiple listings on Amazon as well:

On my 7.3 Excursion I had to resort to a 5 gal bucket. Opening the drain results in 19qts of oil. With the Fumoto and the bucket I dont spill a drop from the drain. The filter I loosen and spin off with a gallon ziplock around it to catch any leak.

Did anyone reinstall that metal safety clip that keeps the housing from loosening?
    Dumbest thing I ever seen.

Nope screw that thing. They are so tight anyway.
