I got a Costco price from a dealer this week on 2021 Tacoma TRD Sport 2WD Double Cab Long Bed:

    MSRP - $37,982, Invoice - $35,794, Costco Discount - +$750 on top of invoice, Total before TTL = $36,544

This is the first I have heard that they add $750 for the Costco discount rather than a mark down from Invoice or MSRP. The guy said, "that is still a really good price, I think if you have checked other dealerships you will see." Anybody else had this issue?

Thanks! I am anticipating a $12,000 trade-in and fortunately have very good credit. Probably finance around $30,000 and pay off early!

This salesman also said, "Costco pricing is the best deal going, our agreement with Costco is, "there's no further negotiating." $1,400 discount off MSRP before TTL isn't getting me that excited to pull the trigger.

What is everyone's opinion on the predator tube steps? Are they a good buy at $649 and factory installed/warrantied or better to go after market for better/less expensive steps? Also the black emblem overlays at $160?

While I somewhat agree with you on this, if you factor in the extras you get over an off-road:

Shocks, head light tail light, skid plate, exhaust tip (I think), wheels and tires, floor mats, and TRD pro grill. I’m probably missing more.

Granted you can get non OEM for cheaper, some people who are OEM only will pay more in just parts alone.
And most people who purchase an sr5/off-road will upgrade tires and suspension.
Here in Cali, a fully loaded off-road, premium, advanced tech package and led headlights is 44.8, while a TRD pro is 47.8.
It’s almost worth it to pay the extra 3 grand and not worry about spending the time to research parts to upgrade/change

    But to each his own.

A trd off road Premium is 46k equally equipped. And it doesn’t come with the nicer exhaust and shocks. Also $2500 is perhaps the price of the shocks alone but not to mention the install + alignment and you’re at a price parity.

If you’re comparing To a trd off road ... then it is apples to oranges.
You’d have to add the lights + interior upgrades + all of the other aforementioned mechanical upgrades, and a few others like skid, grille, and wheels. To make it equal.
Otherwise why not compare it to a 2001 taco with a rear locker for 10k does everything the new one does also.

I bought mine from Fred Anderson Charleston South Carolina. all the Fred Anderson‘s pretty much from what I gather have rotating stock. Certainly not a no haggle no room for negotiation type of place. The first offer was $10,000 more than I paid. Granted that was including trade-in, etc.

This is what made me just buy a new SR. I went through modding a 2nd gen OR and making it a WAAAAAAAYYYYY better product after putting several thousand into it. Why waste money on the starter kit, though an e-locker would be nice...

I’m with you man. Currently on a fully built 2nd gen OR, about to pick up a base 2021 SR. After 4.88s, Eaton e-locker, Kings, total chaos, and Deavers I’m still under the sticker price of a TRD OR, albeit with a far superior machine.

They were trying to give me $19,000 for my trade-in which they ended up giving me $27,000 for. Same thing with each of the 4 vehicles I’ve bought there. But there was plenty of movement in the actual price of the actual truck as well. Good Lord they must make a killing off the suckers that accept those first offers

Except no one should or does pay MSRP for an OR where as they do for a PRO. If you were paying MSRP for both fine, and actually a fully loaded TRD OR is closer to $44-45k not $46k, now if you load it with accessories then yes.

No one should be paying for MSRP regardless of trim, but some people don’t care to negotiate.
MSRP price of the OR is 44.5 for DCSB premium and advanced tech package, this can be lowered easily to 42-43. An MSRP pro is 47.5. It’s almost worth it to suck up the 3-5 grand and pay the difference for some extra goodies and not have to worry about looking up parts.

You can go lower than $42k, I paid $39k for my $44.8k MSRP OR in Feb, many if you look prior to COVID and right at, easily 12-15% off MSRP, same with prior years past. $7k is a big difference and can build you a much nicer truck than a stock Pro.

    That's a lie.
Sold mine for $360 and just got the model specific overlays for $50 on eBay
Got mine from there in January 2020 for 37k OTD (MSRP on sticker was 40.7K or ~42k OTD prior to negotiating) 2020TRD OR AT 4x4 DCSB QS. Came with several extras, but no tech or premium. Decent experience. They beat everyone else, had the color/model I wanted in stock and the Jeff guy on YouTube was very helpful watching his videos.

Out of checking with 10 different dealers the one who had Costco pricing was one of the 4 highest. They were also one of the hardest to get a price quote from.

I’m curious what is the tax advantage to buying on January 2nd?
