What the heck?!?!

Since I'm considering buying some 295/70r17s, I decided to go out to the truck with a tape measure to see how much different the sizes would be (this being based on the info that people have given me saying a 295 is roughly 33.5x11.5). When I go to measure my 285/70r17 Nitto Terra Grapplers, they were like 31.5" tall. What the heck? I thought that they were supposed to be just under 33"? And yes they have plenty of tread left, with maybe 12-15k miles on them. No wonder they look small to me. Definitely need bigger tires after measuring those up.

So basically, am i wrong in my measurements? Was I wrong with my assumption that they were just under 33"? Just looking for some feedback

 

your current tires are supposed to be about 33" (using a tire calc), but in real life the mectric sizes are always smaller than they are supposed to be. And this is true for all tires (usualy). My factory ones measured out to 29" when they were supposed to be 31".

 

Were they mounted with the weight of the truck on them?

either way, the 295s will still be a little bigger, and going with a more aggressive tread pattern this time, I think...I hope Ill finally be happy

 

haha. Well you could always put 150 psi in them if you want a 33 Just kidding, don't do that obviously.
