Toyota just reported an increase in sales. The analysts are saying that when the competitors increase sales, Toyota benefits too. People who normally buy midsize cars and minivans are abandoning their market to buy what's cool right now, and the cool new thing is the rugged, knobby tired, midsized truck. So most those that are buying Rangers and Tacomas didn't trade in old Rangers or Tacomas, they traded in Altimas and Focus and Corollas.
And then they get on here to complain that their cool vehicle doesn't accelerate and shift like a midsize car. Go figure.

I have no clue man, im just guessing at this point.

I am glad Toyota designed our trucks to run a cleaning cycle so we don't need to do that.

Our engine uses DI also but we also have port injection to clean the back of the valves DI only lacks that.

Turbos spin at a very high rpm. There’s a post on a focus forum that is saying 10k at idle is normal and at full chat we’re talking 150k rpm +

they share engine oil. So the engine oil is thinner for the turbo, and needs to be replaced on schedule. I do 10k in my Tacoma. If I stretched it to 12, he’ll I’ve even seen people do 20+ every so often as a mistake and it’s fine. With a turbo though, if you don’t maintain your oil it will Bork the turbos. So even just once and it can be toasted.

But isnt the hot idle cleaning cycle for injectors only?

Valves get cleaned anytime port injection is used.

This is true about most turbo engines. I had that Jeep Liberty CRD with a turbo diesel you should hear about the turbo failure on those. If the oil control is lost in the turbo or the shaft breaks the oil on those would get pumped in to the intake. Those engines could consume it as fuel. then the crank case empties if you don't shut it down immediately in any case and it's bye bye to the whole engine.

I was thinking the cleaning cycle is when it switches to the port injectors at idle.

Oddly enough, that is the primary color I see the ranger in. That or the truck is so bland looking that it requires a color like that for me to take notice. lol

I know for sure that our engines run both DI and PI at the same time in certain conditions and at times run on DI or PI only. Ive watched some videos or read about it, cant quite remember where ive seen it. When we cold start our engines its on DI only, hence the different exhaust note.

Time to do some more researching when im done work:)
