    Hello Tacoma World!

I have no idea if this is the right place to post this, if it isn't I'm sorry. I want some opinions and to see if anyone else is having the same problem that I am having.

To keep a long story short, I took my 2018 OR to my dealership in East KY on Monday, November 30th for the Fuel Pump Recall that I am sure you all are aware of. I had only been home for 30 minutes after I dropped it off when the dealer called and told me that they broke a part and that it would be sometime the next week when I would be able to come pick up my truck. I said fine. I called them back on Wednesday of the next week, which was December the 2nd, they still had not received the part needed to fix my truck. They then told me it would be the 13th before they would even receive the part. I said fine. The 13th comes around and I call and they did not have the part. I asked when they would and they said by Friday of this week. I call Friday morning and guess what? They did not have the part and they said they had no ETA on when the parts would arrive and that it could be Monday or it could be months from now.

What should I do at this point? I contacted Toyota Corporate office a few days ago and they said there isn't much they can do except create a case# and investigate the shipping delay. I have been without a truck going on a month now and have no way of getting around and the dealership has no loaner vehicles to offer. They have made no efforts to compensate me in anyway.

That part is on national back order. You should be in a rental. You can get an Enterprise truck too.

Not old enough to rent a vehicle in my state, unfortunately. Have to be older than 25, I am 22.

Well that sucks but Y2 is correct. They have a set of parts set aside for you if they screw that up you get to wait again until your new parts come in. I’m still on the pre part order list so I haven’t even made it to the actual part list yet. My dealer had no idea how long that would be since I have a 2019 and there are a crap load of people before me plus the people waiting for extra parts that were broke by the dealer........:D I’m sorry was that too soon...

If I am understanding correctly they broke something related to your fuel pump? They do not have the replacement pump due to back order?
You are to young, technically, to rent a vehicle.
A friends Tacoma had a bad fuel pump a few months ago. Dealer installed the same recalled one until the new one is available.
If they cannot provide you with a loaner vehicle (not a rental) nor can they fix your vehicle with the new version of the pump, I would be on them about using the old version of the pump until they can come up with the new one. The old pump (a new one) is not going to fail in the few weeks/months it may take them to get the replacement pump.
    Call them out on it.

Please tell me that is not your dog in that GIF, just such a cruel joke, but I'm dying every time I see it. I took me a few times seeing it to realize there was a laser pointer, just thought the dog was an ass.

I'll ask them Monday. The Service Manager at my dealer has been unable to tell me the specific "part" that broke while trying to replace my fuel pump, he just keeps referring to it as "waiting on a replacement part for the new fuel pump to come in." I'm not sure what to make of it. They probably don't even have my old fuel pump anymore. I'm about to ask them to get an aftermarket part and include it in the warranty.

If not the original FP ... What 'part' did they break?
Yeah, that sucks about not being able to get a rental because of age..
One of the good things about being old is .. (And there isn't much..) .. If I were to want to go rent a Lamborghini, they'd probably ask me if I wanted one for each foot ..

Sounds like they broke something outside the scope of the recall. Maybe a fitting on the tank. Maybe a wring harness. The fact that they wont tell you what broke is completely unacceptable. I would go to that dealership and not leave until I knew exactly what broke, the Part # of said part (so maybe I could try to find it) and some sort of loaner. This, right here, is why I DREAD letting anyone else but me work on my vehicles.

Service manager wouldn't tell me specifically, just said it was the fuel pump, and that they didn't know when they would be getting the parts in to fix it.

Whatever it was they broke, the Manager said it was included in the recall, he just kept refererring to everything as "fuel pump." He would say something like "they broke your fuel pump when taking it off the truck," " we have no ETA on when the parts for the Fuel Pump are arriving."

You're getting smoke blown up your ass. If it was in the kit then they should be able to get it no problem.

    They broke something else

That's what I've been saying this whole time. Someone isn't being straight with me at all. My dealership has always been shady but it's the only one near me so I didn't really have a choice but to go there. Wouldn't surprise me if they were trying to find a way to keep my truck seeing as its the nicest one they've had on the lot since the pandemic started.... jokes haha. Anyway, my dealership is a bunch of clowns.

They told me at one point that the factory making the parts was shut down due to COVID and that I would be on a waiting list for weeks.

That sounds like a reasonable accommodation. Being without a vehicle for that amount of time is not an option for most people. I would be livid.

Have you asked them if they can get the part from another dealership?

I'm going to ask them Monday. They had originally told me that nobody else had the parts without me having to ask but I'm going to ask anyway.

    WHAT??!! COVID??

I had this done about 2 months ago. That chart where they show the affected cars and the timelines for when remedies (parts) will be available for specific cars is pretty much been spot on. Got the recall notice about this time last year, maybe a little later, I forget it was so long ago. It was said then that covid caused the long delay during spring/summer 2020 but they've been hammering these out (the Tacomas) since August/September. Now, to be honest, I'm not sure if the recall expansion had anything to do with this situation but THEY screwed up and they need to make it right ASAP. No excuses. If I didn't have my truck how the hell do I get to work? How are you getting by right now without transportation? You don't even have the option of getting a rental on your dime so they have royally screwed you.
