Thanks. It was all stuff I had laying around. I didn’t want to move the 100lb log any more than I had to...

I’m thinking I may just rub the top with oil, or maybe spar varnish.

I like this stuff. It goes on slick, dries fast, sands well, water clean up and...

    it’s nearly bulletproof.

You definitely should put something on it or it will check and the bark will fall off. JMO

    Thanks, I hear ya...

I did a smaller hunk once, covered it with epoxy... shiny, hard, slippery. It was like a giant plastic lego block. Stayed together, but I didn’t like it. I’m still debating a finish. I don’t think there’s anything that’ll keep it together forever. It’s just too big and when it cracks there’ll be too much force. It’s gonna warm up in the house for a few weeks before I do anything.

The more it dries, the more it will crack. Stabilizing it would stop it but it would be kind of shiny. It'll be hard to handle a piece that big while trying to stabilize it. You could get the router inlay kit and use bowties to hold it together. I'm sure someone on here has a better idea. I personally have never been able to stop big chunks from splitting.

here’s the oak flooring going down and finished. It was made from white oak we had milled when we cleared some trees in our backyard. It’ll be about 900sf all said and done, don’t remember how many board feet my dad started with.
