I finally moved the Tacoma the other day. I really miss driving it. This flatbed project is taking wayyyyyy too long. The shop doing the cutting and bending is on hold at the moment. Someday I’ll get to drive my Tacoma again.

Some flags and center console divider... lots of things on the wanted list.
I smoked a pork butt on Wednesday for 10hrs... We used the leftovers today to make pulled pork chili burritos. I think we ended up with 30+ with how much meat was leftover...

I've got homemade burritos for weeks! We typically make a huge batch once a quarter and freeze them

Anyone try to rebuild a Toyota double cardon? Mine just but the bullet. I think it’s been awhile coming I think.

Im not even sure what it came off of though.

How's the centering pin in the shaft side yoke look? If that's damaged at all it's easier to just have a new cardon pressed into the shaft.

Both ujoint look fine. I think it’s the center ball/spring tension thing. Is that what you’re referring to?

Yep. Remove both u-joints. The cardon is made up of a centering pin that's welded to the shaft side yoke. The flange side is a ball and cup. Between then there are needle bearings. The ball and cup are replaceable. The centering pin is not. If the centering pin is bent or mushroomed you need to have a new shaft side yoke welded on. At that point it's cheaper just to get a new cardon assembly and have that welded on.

I just blew mine up a few weeks ago. Note that it's a Spicer assembly and not the stock Toyota double cardon. Copy and paste from IFS OFFROAD . Com is below:

Tom Woods customer service is amazing.

As some of you know I destroyed my rear yolk 2 years ago on Claw Hammer. All my fault as the drivetrain was bound up and I powered through it in lo/lo. It got sent back to Tom Woods and the replaced it for free. They give you one free fuck up cause shit happens. Cool.

Fast forward two years. Leaving JV last month a had a very slight rotational noise. I checked and couldn't find anything loose so I drove home. Then I went up into the Whites with my wife and it got bad. Real bad. It looked like a u-joint in the double cardon was most likely the cause. I limped it home and pulled the shaft.

Nope. U-joints where actually in pretty good shape. The cup and ball of the cardon itself was a different story. There was a ton of slop. I removed the u-joints and pulled the cardon apart. The 7 needle bearings that where left looked like banana's. The centering pin on the yolk was mushroomed severely at the tip. Fuck.

That centering pin is part of the shaft side yolk that welded into the tube. No fixing that at home. I got Tom Woods on the phone and printed out a return label. They received it and quoted me $180 to replace the cardon. Cool. Do it. They received it on a Wednesday and it was back on the UPS truck Wednesday night. Rad.

I installed it today. When I unpacked it I noticed it was a new tube. My old one had a dent that was hard to miss. Then I noticed the slip tail and yolk was new as well. My old one was beat to shit with multiple gauges from rocks. Tom Woods gave me a brand new shaft as far as I can tell. Total cost with shipping was $202. Stoked.

Thank you. I’ll tear it down and go from there.

I don’t think it’s as bad as that because it started vibrating after slick rock but wasn’t that bad until today. Took it to a local store and it was kinda ok but took a super sharp turn into a parking spot.

The way home was knock/vibration crazy. I thought it would explode on me. Something failed but we’ll see what.

Start soaking the u-joint bearing caps in Liquid Wrench now. It makes a world of difference in how easily the joint pushes out.

Same problem years ago. Buried a pipe filled with concrete. Didn't work as well as I'd hoped. However, the fake 4x4 containing the larger concrete filed pipe worked great!
