Mounted a Pelican Case. Why didn’t I do this sooner.

Recently mounted a pelican storm Case (im3300) on my roof rack for additional storage. Considering a second one down the road. Did some research and the Storm lineup from pelican seemed to be the best option to me. Great latches, fully water proof, padlock holes, and great lifetime warranty.

Functional and looks great IMO.

I keep a lot of miscellaneous recovery and some tools in it. Previously it would have been floating around in the bed or back. Second one would strictly be for recovery gear.

Living in an apartment, I don’t have a garage so my truck is kind of a mobile garage. And this case serves with awesome storage!

anyone else enjoying their hard case mounted on your roof rack? Photos to share?

I like the idea and I considered doing something similar myself, but that thing up on your rack practically screams 'STEAL ME!'

Any way you could put it in the bed under the tonneau?

 

Agreed on that logic. Yes it can fit in the bed but with how big the case is it will be too awkward to keep it living there permanently.

The case it self is bolted down to a point where i dont worry about the case being taken off at all.

The case has 4 padlock holes and i am using 2 of the holes with quality padlocks from a USA made brand called “Commando Lock”. I will hope to think seeing those pad locks it would deter anyone who would want to.

I also made and sticked on white vinyl decals stating, “Nothing of Value Inside” and “Alarm will Sound” (theres no alarms though). Just another layer of deterrence.

In the worst case scenario where someone actually breaks open into it with a decent size bolt cutter and gets a hold of stuff in there, its not a huge loss of value at the end of the day.

Ill see how it holds up though

If it were me. I would get a second case and mount it opposite side. Symmetry is a thing for me.

I like it, I too would be worried about thievery. I know this is a far fetched unlikely thing to happen, but somedody could atach a rope to your roof rack and the bumper of their truck and pull your whole rack off your truck.

 

or they could simply unbolt the horizontal bars... Anti-theft torx bolts could slow them down a bit.

 

Any noise? I'd like a roof rack with cases but I'm deterred by the potential noise.

 

Bolt cutters are fast and easy. Thieves don't care about your roof rack or stickers and can just cut the case away from your rack.

You don't need it everyday. Just keep it in your closet or something and bring it out when you do need it.

 

Looks good, I wouldn’t worry a whole lot with theft. You should have one on the other side too. Uptop overland rack? Ordered mine for my 18’ t4r on Black Friday. 8 week lead time.

 

Yep, thieves will find a way. I just had 1,000+ dollars worth of gear stolen a few days ago. They pried my rear doors open and took everything in my rear seats.

 

I have a 44" eylar case on my roof rack. Works great. I got it on sale about a year ago for under $100 on Amazon.

 

This,bolt cutters are $20.

 

Yup, that definitely looks like an upTop Bravo rack.

 

Maybe in some really crappy parts of the country where criminals abound will roof racks and containers get thieved. I can't imagine someone would go through the effort of removing something from the roof that can only be mounted to specific vehicles. Tail gates, sure, those are easy and only take a few seconds if not locked. Most crimes are crimes of opportunity. Lock that shit up. You should be doing that anyway.

 

This is the first thing I'm opening if I'm looking for shit to break in to.

 

Looks good, pelican cases are good gear I own multiple cases myself. I’m glad I live in the part of the country where I really don’t worry about getting my stuff stolen. I feel for you people who have to think about this every time you park somewhere.
