Why don’t you want to put it near your head, are you worried about RF? Take that cellphone out of your pocket then for sure, it is hundreds of times more powerful than your key fob.

Try the chin trick otherwise, you wont look as dumb as it on the side of your head either. Put it under your chin and face looking towards the truck as you push it. it really triples the distance.

I solved my short keyfob range problem. I have a dash cam with a front and rear camera. My range is 15' at best. I unplugged the rear camera and now it works at 100' plus. I am pretty sure the antenna is somewhere along the path of the camera wire. I'm guessing if I route the camera wire to the passenger side all should be well.

Interesting. I’ve got a front dash cam. Wonder if it’s the same issue.

My keys and battery are both new replacements and in my pocket the range is 20 feet max.

Outside my pocket waving it in the air it’s 25

My rear camera is routed along the driver side and mounted on the driver side. I have to be right next to the truck for the fob to work when the camera is on in parking mode.

I'm using the StreetGuardian SG9663DCPRO. I no longer use the parking mode.

My range is still dismal without the camera running; maybe 20-30 feet max.

When it's warmer I am going to reroute the rear camera wire to the passenger side. Also looking at the N2 remote start.

I work in a glass wall building on the 3rd floor. Have to park anywhere from 400-600 ft from the building but can see my truck line of site with no obstructions. I purchased one of the aftermarket remote starts so I can warm up the truck in Dec-Feb prior to leaving work. I added the long range kit and it maybe added 50 ft to the normal 30 ft, which is no where near the 400-600 ft range I need or the 2800 ft range advertised. Returned the LRR kit.

My Co-worker has a Nissan Altima and his factory remote start works at the furthest distance we can possibly park at. So annoying. Don't want to pay a subscription for a smart phone app. No solution as of yet. I guess I live with it. Not buying a Nissan any time soon.

I just saw the post from tacotruck, I guess I wont bother rerouting the wire.
HFJeff were you using the N2 remote start?

I replaced my fob with a flip key fob found on ebay and the range increased drastically. Only issue is my panic button doesnt work.... but ive never used my panic button intentionally

    https://www.amazon.com/Remote-Flip-...+flip+key&qid=1608477546&s=automotive&sr=1-21

My range previously was severely cut when i installed a dash cam to maybe 20' now i can walk 75-100' and still hear the faint chirp

the chip that comes with the key didnt work so you will need to cut into the old key or get a new H chip that works and program it with techstream.

I have the 12v Solutions remote start with the Fortin. I added the LRR kit they recommended which included an antenna that you double stick tape to the front windshield. I returned the LRR kit but still have the remote start which I use at home in the morning for a detached garage.

I would remove this remote start kit and start over with something else if I knew it would work. Am open to OEM something else with a separate remote start FOB that could get me the 600 ft I need.

I have a Fortin Remote start from N2 and use the cell module. It costs like $33 bucks a year if you pay for 3 years in advanced and to me totally worth it. What i use it most for is to check if i locked the doors. I tend to forget alot and this has saved me the grief of having to go back to the truck and check. I do also use the remote start occasionally.

Thanks Tacotruck, I'm leaning towards the N2 not in a hurry so I'll keep reading for awhile. Thanks. I am planning on the cell module too.

I've experienced this issue with every Toyota we have at work. Camry, rav4, highlander, 4runner, tacoma, even the corolla and corolla cross. You have to be standing damn near next to these cars for the fob to do anything. When I first started working there I thought the few toyota keys I grabbed just all happened ro be running low on the battery, turns out it's just the norm with Toyotas. Pretty frustrating considering I can remote start a Tahoe from a mile away while i have to be standing next to the truck to remote start my taco with the key fob (I do have the app but still, the range is abysmal).

Remote on my Taco is about 100' if I can see it and about 50' unseen. Previous vehicle was a Nissan Murano. Needed to be within 30' of it sight seen or not. Remote start was the only thing that bothered me about that vehicle. I would never knock or put down Nissans. I've had a couple of them with absolutely no problems! They only needed regular oil changes and fuel.

Same for me. Can't even use my remote start at work. Range is about 20-30' for me, with a new battery.

What's interesting but useless is that if I start out at my truck and slowly walk away from it, I can keep getting a response up to maybe 100'.

    Kind of infuriating.

When my Fob acts funny, I clean the metal contacts where the coin battery sits with steel wool.
