Check out the ADS thread => https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...shocks-information-pictures-bs-thread.341630/

EDIT: Disregard this post. I was high, when I typed it. For some reason, I read ADS instead of Icon. There is an Icon thread somewhere, I’m just not following it.

I would research the Icons specifically (maybe reach out to them, I've heard their support isn't great though) and see what's the acceptable range for pre-load. There is going to be a sweet spot of where they should be and it's going to be different for each shock mfg (I could tell you for Kings :)), outside of that range (either too much or too little) will compromise ride quality even more. Also depending on what you have on the truck (bumper, winch, etc), it could include swapping springs to keep pre-load in range and give the proper ride/height.

As mentioned though, adjusting the pre-load is pretty simple. Get the weight off the front shocks, loosen the collars (not sure how the Icons secure the top collar), and then use the spanner to adjust. I also spray a little lube on the body after loosening the collar so it can turn a little more easily as even with the weight off, there is still a fair amount of pressure from the spring.

I ran icons up until recently. I was told you can have an inch and 7/8th’s of thread showing above the collar and still be considered “safe” by icon’s standards. More preload will cause it to ride a little rougher, but it’s not terrible.

Is that from them? The reason I ask is the amount of threads shown should not be the measurement because that will vary based on the spring and your vehicle weight. It should be a total length measurement or a shaft showing measurement.

That’s what I was told from their customer support. It was on my 5th gen 4runner, I tried to edit my post but I guess it didn’t go through.

I agree that isn’t the “correct” measurement for preload, but I feel that it’s a good rule of thumb for off the shelf coilovers.

Out here yesterday and today for a job interview and to look at apartments.... and holy shit are there a ton of lifted 5th gens. I’m going to blend right in here instead of being the sore thumb in Tennessee.

Here is what I found from Icon. 2.13” is the max thread exposure you should have on the 2.5 coil overs I have. I also found out that they come with the preload set for gen 2 Tacoma’s so I am sure my shop just threw them on and didnt adjust for my truck...

Spanner wrench will be here tomorrow and so hopefully I can get it dialed in soon. Attached is the video and pdf straight from Icon.

Any opinions out there about the most competent N Utah dealership for ToyotaCare service? I’ve heard Mark Miller has better customer service but Karl Malone has better mechanics.

I’m pro Mark Miller. They’ve been good to me considering my Taco has been significantly modded.

Larry H Miller hasnt blinked an eye at modded trucks of mine and several of my friends trying to get warranty work done.

Brent Brown in Orem will never see me or my truck ever again though.

I use to go to Karl Malone all the time for regular service but eventually found them lacking in all departments. Last time I was there was 2017.

I went to Brent Brown once back in 2008 and I’ll never go again.

I've never used Mark Miller's service department but their parts people are great. I have a coworker who's a Toyota fanatic and used to be a car salesman. He said Mark Miller was the only dealership that treated him like a human being. To me that indicates they're probably the most ethical dealership around.

I went and toured there yesterday, suuuuper nice. And actually like 3 miles from where I interviewed. This is probably where I’ll end up living if the money on this job offer is right. Much appreciated.

yea, I liked it. I don’t like that you can’t turn left into it though. That’s kind of aggravating, but not terrible.
