    The math is 265/70/16 = 265/70/16IMG_20201219_213254.jpg
Best way is to use GPS or a radar. My 285/70/17s are off about 4 mph per 35 miles.

I need the truck to transport my motorcycles to the track and intercity. But 8 mph seems an insult and I live in CA and hate paying the POS governer the gas tax. I was considering a Honda Ridgeline.

people keep talking about winter gas blends but I live in CA and get my gas strictly from Costco so I wonder if it makes a difference? Also does premium make a difference?

I wouldn’t run premium unless supercharged or turbocharged. These are not high compression. It’s a waste of money as all regular gas stations should be using the same detergents and additives. I’ve never put high octane in any Tacoma- I’ve had 4 of them.

Call it placebo but I thought I got a peppier acceleration from stopped with premium vs regular. But sometimes the difference is negligible.

    simply NOT True

strange what people will believe .............

by example ALL 265/70/16 are NOT the SAME circumference

which DIRECTLY effects speedometer error !!!!

no less GPS in its 4-5 evoling generations has to be adjusted = corrected from time to time

to Maintain its accuracy................yes thats a plus / minus accuracy

    believe what U like

    santa will visit soon

You got stock wheels? Maybe try a lighter wheel with no offset. Use the oem tire, maybe new tires are heavier or the tread pattern has a harder rolling resistance. A lift never helps mpg. Added weight i.e topper, rack, armor. I mean I have a 4 banger and its a 4x4 and I get 16mpg I get around 200 miles to the tank. Could also be something might be on the way out and a check engine light is in your future and the computer is compensating for it and sucking more gas. Hey if it runs right and no check engine light just live with it it, it’s a truck.

I guess the 16 inch wheels became part of the package in 01 then, maybe.

But I think it's now well established that 265 was NOT the "standard" size tire for Tacoma.

Pretty sure 265/70R/16 became a factory size in 2001 on certain models.

Or... they just do a really shitty job of matching the info on the door plate to what is actually on the truck.

Door plate on mine says 225/75R15
    20201220_100551.jpg

Look up the VIN on mine, it says 265/70R16
    Screenshot_20201220-100456_Edge.jpg

My truck came from the factory with 16 inch wheels.

So, if you take off the lift, replace the tires with the stock size, run proper fuel, do you still get the same milage as before?

265 was available, but it was always the upgraded size. It was never the "standard" size on 1st Gen Tacoma 6 lug.

The TRD section of your specs appears to have nothing specified.

This is what mine says in the TRD section

It's just the way it's displayed. Again, I assure you that I have a TRD. Mine came with 31x10.50r15 from the factory...

So I'm not exactly sure what the point of the photo of your VIN tag was.

With 225/75R15 circled and a caption it's a TRD. But, now you're saying you had 31x10.5x15 tires.

At the end of the day, I think it's been pretty well established that 265 is not the standard on 1st Gen 6 lug... which is the point I was trying to make earlier.

But, just so you know... your factory spec was 225/75R15. (which I would say is the "standard" if there is one for 6 lug). 31x10.50r15 may have been a dealer installed option.

    Screenshot_20201220-124653_Edge.jpg

What makes you so positive it's a TRD?

Holy fuck dude. I was simply pointing out that not ALL TRD's came with 265's like you stated. 2001-2004, maybe. 98-00 is a different story. I know the original owner and history of my specific truck and if someone went through the trouble of putting in a factory TRD package on a SR5, they did an amazing job. It has all the factory wiring, locker, suspension, wheels, decals etc.

I'm sure you're right though. The dealership probably ordered an SR5 and converted into a TRD by sneakily installing a bunch of shit without the original owner knowing about it...

This thread is a reminder why I don't even bother with figuring out my MPGs, I know they suck and that's about all I care to know.

These trucks already had the aerodynamics of a brick and when you lift them that just gets worse, then and add more weight at the wheels with heavier tires and it just gets worse from there.

As mentioned if you aren't factoring in the odometer change after adding bigger tires then your mpg calculations are going to appear worse than they really are. Not by a lot but there is a difference.

If it makes you feel better, I'm lucky to get 200 miles per tank lol.

Luckily work is close by so I still only fill up a few times a month.
