Have you spent with day worrying about your start button failing and paint flaking off?

 

I have to buy more CRC. Most of the green cans says non chlorinated and the red cans say nothing about chlorinated.

Heh, not worried at all. It's like the sky is falling if you get 040 Super White and a start-button.

I will say white was not my first pick, but it's what they had. That and it does hide alot of paint imperfections, so there's that...

Why would I buy new when I can repair.

This motor needed new rings.
Hone job
Grind and lap the valves
Stem grind the valves and adjust clearance.
True the head.
Adjust the decompression mechanisms
Re Assemble.

I have been asked that 100’s of times.

Auto repair shop
Race shop
Small engine shop
The red tape and startup costs would kill me.
Not make it fun.
Have to be zoned for business.
Inspections.
Dealing with fluids I’d have to get hasmat shit and permits.
It’s my own stuff.
Don’t have to deal with outsiders....

 

Let me know which one so I can bring anything I don't want to deal with to you! I like working on my own stuff and I'm decently handy, but damn it if there's some stuff I just don't have time to do.

 

I forgot about all the red tape involved, insurance and the other stuff.

In this area, there's no small engine repair shop that takes pride in their work anymore. It's all about the volume and money.

One place I call when I had mower problems started freaking out as soon as I mentioned Honda.

 

well my take on that.

say your a toro and simplicity dealer
You have manuals, Parts, etc.
Someone comes in with a Honda ?
No books, parts..

we have people come in with fords.
WTF
Anything parts we get takes 30 min.
Diagnosis?
No special tools

I tell anyone car truck small engine.
Buy with maint in mind.
Don’t buy a Honda A hour and a half away and try to bring it to a
Ariens dealer across the street.
Some parts do interchange. The ones that don’t they can’t get through their venders
for their prices.
The little mom and pop guy can do it possibly. But more delay time trying to find parts.
That’s my take on it.
They just don’t want to deal with an unknown..

Funny you mentioned Toro. The shop owner used to worked for Toro. He mentioned Honda parts can become an issue. Can't get a good wholesale price.
He just want to work on what he used to, Toro, and Briggs and Stratton engines.

I did some research on Honda dealer and repairs before buying Honda power equipment. Closes dealer was 45 minutes away. But now there's a dealer plus repairs 15 mins away.

I wanted a Yamaha snowblower but I have to get it in Canada or Ebay. Parts and repairs will definitely become an issue. Now I thinking Ariens.

You won’t go wrong with an Ariens in my experience. The service is the other part of the story
