So if I go to the dealer and purchase a sx. I can have dealer install a rear locker? Legit question here I can buy a 21 sx for $33,500. Its a AC/AT v6 long bed with blackout package and led headlights. I was thinking about it and just adding an arb for $1000.

The locker was, in fact, available as a dealer added option. That is absolute 100% fact.

 

We are talking 1st Gen.





I have idea about, or desire to learn about any of the lesser Gens after 1st Gen.

 

My company doesn't have a Toyota franchise; we do have Jeep, Chevy, Dodge, Ram, Nissan, Kia and for plenty of vehicles, options can be added after the fact.

Service finalizes install by submitting to the manufacturer that a specific sales code was added to the vin number of the vehicle worked on; this way any dealer servicing the vehicle can see it is a 'factory' option whether it was installed at the dealer or not. It's an OEM part/assembly, installed on their model car or truck.

 

Yeah no right dealer is gonna do that, why? Cus its a headache cmon man no dealer is gonna send it down the street to some guy to put a locker, maybe youre cool with a new car going through that but not me, warranty voided

On dealer added... with Toyota... I believe there are cases where the added option can be made, but the VIN has already been established.

Example: dealer added locker that is does not show up on VIN report.

Probably not on a public, online database.

I can tell you though that if you had your Chevy Silverado or Jeep Wrangler, heck even your Ram 3500, equipped with something from the dealer that was available as a factory option, the sales code will show up on the inquiry report.

 

Yes I am aware that we are talking first gens. I just didn't know if the dealer would do a rear locker as an add on. That and what would it cost? No biggie I am sure my sales rep will be calling me in the morning. They just got new inventory.
