They are just sounding new Because they are now branded and sound cool.

People used to do off-road and go for a few days out in the country, but now its called overland and sounds way cooler, and sells a lot of gear.

    Branding + cool factor + marketing = $$$

The club can be one of the best deterrents imo cause it’s something they can easily see that will make it harder to steal. That and a manual transmission lol

I wonder if this is also because most of the crowd doesn't have the balls to do old school expeditions, so we have to find something similar, that sounds cool too, but it's easy and safer.

I find curious when I keep hearing "never go on the trails alone" in Canada, while a lot of expeditions were actually just one truck, a couple of guys, or a family through African/south American countries, some during in Civil War..
I get it, but f#$k, that way no one would have done any amazing expeditions.

Safety is a bigger thing now. According my experience on the Apple II, half the people died of dysentery or got eaten by wildlife on those expeditions. :anonymous:

Takes about 10 seconds to bypass for a thief who's been canvassing your truck, but you can fill that access hole with JBWeld and improve The Club's security:

I think back then there must have been a small number of people who could afford to do this and
a small number of people who wanted to do it also word probably spread very slow back then.
people were probably concentrating on living to work and now we concentrate on working to live.
no drone footage, no cool music or close up of cooking and fires no cool stuck videos and the list goes on...

Safety is sometimes very relative, sometimes it's more in people's minds than in reality.

I lived in Africa in a country in Civil War, but felt safer than in USA. I knew where to go and not to go, huge regions had no violence at all, critical areas under control by police patrols in pickups armed with ak47, and almost all civilians unarmed.

In usa, every day i could look at the death stats, half the population is armed and ready to shoot anyone that piss them off or if they go mental in a rage. they tell you not to stop at the lights in NYC, Newark, LA. Etc....
I worked in NYC and Newark. I could only drive on the right side of the tracks in Newark. Had to avoid areas of NYC close to high park, etc...
A friend from Portugal was caught in the middle of a shooting in LA while on tourism.

Feeling safe is sometimes an illusion, marketing, or lack of reality.

Did I tell you about my "The Wire" tour in Baltimore? I kept the engine running while I snapped the photos. Supposedly the streets are safe there during the day. If hoodlums approach you, it's to sell you drugs. :D

    ummm .....ya.
People will shoot at you in Detroit if you take pictures of them or their houses/neighborhood...trust me. Its reality in some areas.
I found a dead guy in the csx yard in Detroit. He was laying face down in the slag I could see the bullet holes in his back. Cops said he was shot at least 6 times..it was an execution.

lol you guys make it seem like everyone who is going to steal a car can do it 15 seconds with no difficulty and they do it 50 times a day. This maybe the odd guy or group that can do this. It is NOT the regular.

That is a load of BS that you have been fed. I work with people who use computers for 8 hours a day every day and they can barely open word.

People are not stealing cars because they are rocket scientist out of work. They are scum bags who maybe know how to do 1 or 2 things.

You put that 3rd thing in the way, it eliminates 99% of the chance of them even trying.

If someone is 'canvassing' you truck, they are going to get it no matter what. They want it, you cant stop thieves who want something. They get it.

Believe there is a 10amp mini fuse under the dash that controls ignition. If you use a switch and still have it fused you can essentially have a hidden kill switch. I know this can be done on the second gen Tacoma’s. Not sure with the newer vehicles with push button start.

The biggest issue is the push button start, but at the end of the day, they will tow your shit if they can’t start it. If something is wanted enough, it will get taken. People are asshats that way.

    The Ultimate Kill Switch.
Forget killing the ignition or fuel source, focus on killing the real problem at hand. The cabin is too comfortable with all those electronic doodads, seat warmers and Excessive Oxygen levels making it too inviting for thieving bastards.
A simple Y-pipe, electric exhaust cutout with a hidden switch, a hole saw and a few inches of exhaust pipe to re-route under the drivers seat. In 6-10 minutes the self-driving concern will have corrected itself.

But for serious, this mod is not off-road worthy, decreases water fording abilities. Mall points only.
