Mainly talking about the “noticeable” differences in quality, far less interior squeaks and rattles from the Japanese assembled Highlander’s and 4runners I’ve driven. Tighter panels. Of course all major components are still Japanese, but as we’ve seen with the third gen with the low transmission fluid coming from the factory, assembly matters as well.

My brother's gps unit in his rave4 has already failed in which toyota replaced this head unit. Pretty sure it was all built in japan.

What would be more interesting to know which tacoma plant ends up with the most scrap/waste in the end before the truck is ready for shipping off to dealers.

Your right that whatever community has the plant is a huge boost to the local economy. Well paid workers spend their earnings in other local business's, it's definitely a win for the area. Plus just building a plant is huge, tons of people hired for that.

Most Toyota head units these days aren't made in Japan anymore. They're one of the few components that seem to consistently come from China. The replacement was probably repaired in the USA though, so that's something, haha.

Don't doubt it, seems all this stuff is built in china now, even gm cars. I think his rave4 though is built in japan. Well last i knew the gps section now works. I was already warned about the taco head unit crapping out costing 5g's when i refused their extended 10year/100k warranty.

I was picking some pieces of a Tesla that was involved in an accident. Every piece of plastic I picked up said made in China on the back of it.

Slightly off-topic but Toyota is not the only major manufacturer who builds out of the country. In 2016 I bought a brand-new Honda Motorcycle which was built in Thailand. It’s been a great bike. Next spring I’m planning-on buying a KTM model which is built in India.

FWIW My Taco was built in Texas, though I still would have bought it had it been built someplace else

Lol there is no scrap or waste in final assembly plants, that happens at the component supplier plants around the world as components go through test. And not all components go through test. If they do fail test they go to quarantine to figure out what is wrong. Depending
on severity, it could shut the plant down.
You have to remember, Toyota makes the sheet metal, engine and transmission. This is a lot, but everything else Toyota designs and specifies. The plastic, fabric, seats, instrument components, suspension components and the other thousand parts... Toyota does not build. They buy from suppliers.

    Stock and staying that way
Mine is Texas built. 58k miles over 4 years, and the only issue so far has been the stock battery died.

Had a 2016 Inferno Tacoma put almost 100k miles before selling it, built in TX no real issues besides the tranny being light on fluid from factory.

Like the blower fan...breaks often and it's cheap too because it's made by communists in china.

Kudos to the folks that mentioned lean manufacturing...even think I read six sigma. Y'all seem to get it. And waste??...like time and supplies? Those costs are part of the value stream and are identified and made as efficient as the model allows...to put it in the most simplest of terms.

Carry on with the bashing though. Love me some hecho en Mexico as much as I love my great state of Tejas yota plants. Same/same anyway.

    And Merry Christmas TW.

Interesting article on the "chicken tax" the reason why we don't have foreign built trucks.
    https://www.aei.org/carpe-diem/the-...-big-3-from-foreign-competition-for-50-years/

I agree after test driving a new 4runner it feels way better put together than a new Tacoma.

I think their big bikes are still built in the EU.
