Car radio..2 year old Blaupunkt pullout worth about $700

 

One of the detailers at the dealership where I used to work found a loaded 9mm handgun in a used Ford Explorer that was being prepped for the lot in either late 2019 or early 2020; The Explorer had been purchased at auction in Ohio if I remember correctly and shipped here to PA...

Wasn't some cheap Saturday Night Special either; It was a Heckler and Koch!

Mine needed the code to be decoded and the tape carriage repaired, $130 in all but worth it for a $700 radio only 2 years old

 

Production ended on the Oldsmobile Firenza the year before I was born; It sold well enough but sales dwindled to the point that they stopped production...

Most of those pre-1990 J-body cars had outlived their usefulness and had been recycled by the time I was out of diapers; I still see a remarkable number of pre-1995 Cavaliers on the road, and I see well-preserved 1980s examples, but I've never seen a Firenza in person!

 

Yes, and it wasn't reported stolen either; Police were called and they ran the serial number. From what I heard, the previous owner of the Explorer got their gun back...

But how the hell do you leave a very expensive and legally owned firearm in a vehicle when you sell it?!?! During my tenure at the detail shop, we've found CDs and DVDs, dog collars, and the occasional tampon, but a high-quality firearm?!?! One guy found about seventy bucks in change in a traded-in car and was allowed to keep it! Lucky bastard...

 

And was the factory radio installed in the car then?

 

Yeah that's messed up, plus some states at least would look very badly upon this for the owner.

Those "DIN-and-a-half" Delco radios were installed in US-spec Rolls-Royces from about 1984 to 1988, but the high-end tape deck version with the equalizer...

 

My ex's mom had a Toronado with that radio..

 

I don’t know how (or where) this happened...

 

And the clear coat got chipped on this one...

 

Ouch that sucks, maybe something was in the snow and you didn't see it.

 

It’s barely noticeable; Will get my uncle to make me a new one this summer, and I’m not gonna keep them on the truck during the winter...

 

That sounds like a good idea, l remember getting a flat in the snow, a freaking fork was mangled up and stuck in the tire!

 

Fortunately they're cheap, I got refurbed on Amazon for my wife's Rav4 a couple of years ago..same appearance. $75 each including shipping

 

Yea, I got a set for $60 on Amazon earlier this year, but normally they’re chrome; My uncle in South Carolina redid them in gunmetal, so that’s a one-off job...
