How do you freeze your credit?

Yeah negotiating outright can be a little more involved because you have to get the dealership to have everything written out and set before signing and whipping out the checkbook to pay in cash. Gotta get them in that gotcha moment. They don't like it because the loose the kickbacks. It's a game to play.

Just go to each of the three major credit bureaus website (transunion/experian/equifax) and set up a username and password, then you can freeze/unfreeze at will. It used to cost money but they passed a law a year or two ago requiring it to be free.

PSA: EVERYONE SHOULD FREEZE THEIR CREDIT. LIKE RIGHT NOW.

When we bought the 4Runner a couple weeks ago I let them know up front that we were paying cash, but I also had a very good offer written in hand from a competing stealership down the road. I just went it and said, no bullshit, beat this number by X and I'll buy the car today.

After the Equifax thing I keep my credit frozen and just unfreeze when needed (refinancing earlier this year)

Realize I'm in a regional area but had to click when I saw the pic of the bug. More pics of you have'm. Grew up with one similar down here on the Texas beaches - it was my father's. It was a rust bucket but pure fun and many great fishing memories were made. My family couldn't afford much of a vehicle for me so we ended up building one out of two in the early 80s - inspired after a trip to California. Lowered, nice interior, chrome parts on engine, nice sound system and the good ole manual sunroof. Stylin and profile'n in highschool though. :D Moved to Houston and shortly after blew out the floorboard going too fast through a puddle of water - rusted completely through. Damn thing got totaled a week or so later too. Ahh but great memories.

Y'all have a Merry Christmas out there on the east coast.

@JimboAnz doesn't your wife have a new(er) Camry? Thinking that might be my new DD when I sell or end up trading in the truck...can't beat the room or the mpg's. Don't care for the newest gen Accord either.

When we bought our camry in 2015 I did all negotiation via email. It was awesome, I printed everything off, walked in with a set price, signed my paper work and left. It took them longer to show me how to pair my phone to the car then actually sign anything. I will do that for now on. We financed because @ 0.9% IR it doesn't even make sense to pay cash, we paid it off like 3yrs early.
We have a 2015 V6 XSE camry and it's pretty nice. It hauls ass, has almost 300hp, IMO that's almost too much in a FWD car as it barks the tires pretty easily. It's great on gas and is comfy and smooth with the v6. Definitely recommend. The 4cyl suck, feels like a rental car. My biggest gripe is no seat adjustment pre sets... My shit box 1999 GMC sierra had them, c'mon toyota!!! Hell my 2002 avalon has them, no excuse for a mid trim level 2015 car not to have them.

I really considered this, but I just like to do it in person too much. I've done some research after the fact and not seen anyone pay less that what I did for the 4runner but you never know. Mass email out to all the local internet managers would have been fun too, maybe next time.

I'm not good at negotiating in the moment, but give me time to collect my thoughts and type it out and it's on!!

It's part of my day job.

When you sent your email, how did you word it? Just ask for best price then pit dealers against each other? Or just said, I am willing to pay $XX,XXX out the door?
