An LS1 will fit under the hood of a taco. Your biggest concern will be the little things; ecu, mounts, transmission, drive shaft. Would like to see it done though.

I got a chevy 350 to fit in a ford ranger, so it should be possible, Tacoma has a bit more room.

I have a small block in my tacoma and did before with factory frame axles...ect. it will physically fit no problem...for wiring painless makes a kit that is 4 wires to hook up and lets you use all factory sensors etc... also my suggestion would not be a LS1 out of camaro or vette... but either a 5.3L ls or 6.0L ls engine out of 99-04 chevy truck.. they are cheaper make more tq and are easier to get the wiring switched
