I feel your pain I live in an apartment and have to get lucky enough to catch my friends with a garage at the right time when they’re not doing their own maintenance to be able to do it there. Summer time the driveway is okay but come winter not a chance.

You would be amazed at how many people tell me my tires look flat at 29 psi.

I kinda get why they bump the pressures up. People are idiots

Do the chalk test if you have altered your tires at all from the factory spec. It's the most accurate way to ensure you're setting psi for the new tires, your carrying weight, etc. Easy to do.

I just got the fuel pump recall done, had set the tires to 31psi front, 29psi rear (chalk test...) and the dealer inflated them to 36psi all the way around. The door placard says 30psi. They must be going of some kind of generic book value.

to defend the lube techs. lube techs are provided tools that’s why they get paid so low. So the dealer will buy them very cheap pressure gauges. As a mechanic I found cheap air gauges are very inaccurate.

I'm not slamming the techs or mechanics. In my case after realizing the truck felt different, I went back to the"multipoint inspection" checklist where they wrote in the psi values of 35psi at all 4 corners. So while their gauges might be junk :D, they are most definitely following procedure.

Oh I know your not. Working as a mechanic for a dealership isn’t what it used to be. I just a few days ago gave up working as a dealership mechanic. There is a huge lack of mechanics coming up and the older ones are leaving. So dealerships are just hiring pretty much anyone at this point. And also it’s half dealers and half the manufacturers fault. Not saying there isn’t bad mechanics . Cause there are.

35-36 psi is the pressure at which P and euro metric tires attain their max load capability, regardless of what max psi is.

I complain to them already about checking for excessive tire pressure when i first had the truck...said not to worry about it when winter comes it'll be whats called for....sob..they were right. Even the truck rides better now.

General rule of thumb. For every 10F degrees ambient, your psi changes by 1 psi (up or down with the temperature)

^This right here. I just pumped mine up to 38psi knowing with the cold weather they would really be at 34-35 truck runs pretty good right there.

I'm at 34 cold and 35-36 after driving a few minutes. This is under 300 miles on a less than 1 month old.
