I love the VHT lineup for the gloss paints.

 

That looks pretty decent. I may have to switch over from this Rust Barrier paint I've been using.

 

No primer needed and it only needed a single can for these. I did 4 coats each so that's some real decent coverage out of a single can.

 

I'm digging it. The rust barrier paint I've been using doesn't require primer and one coat does really good. Seems pretty durable, too. I think it also has some slight rubber/grippy properties to it. It was just something I grabbed as a general purpose paint. I've used it all over the place (sliders, frame, various other pieces). I swear I read somewhere that it wasn't UV stable, but I emailed whoever makes it (it's one of the major rattle can folks) and they said it was fine. So Iunno.

After that long-winded story, I may switch for some items to this VHT stuff. You find all the good coatings in cans!

I will say based on my experiences with the Baja designs chase bar and the rigid options, I wish they were brighter. Running the ambers in the Utah dust and sun, totally ineffective.

As much as I hate to say it, a lot of the race rigs and recovery trucks for our local offroad series rock the below bar, and it absolutely destroys the high end competition in terms of visibility. All for $110.

Probably because the high end cuts some output so not to blind the person behind them maybe idk. I think everyone should get those lighted antenna thingies.

 

I love the lighted whips, but I can't stomach the price of them for what you're getting. Maybe some day.

If I were using the Rigid as a chase light, I'd definitely look into other options, but I'll probably be using it as an auxiliary brake light so it doesn't have to be blinding.

 

That's why I like it as an option. It's bright without being blinding and it has other features like reverse light, cargo light and I think the strobe will be cool. I won't really have a use for it but dammit I'm going to wire it in.

 

Waaaaaait a minute! Did you say it strobes?? Bonus! I'm wiring it in. No question.

 

I got turned onto the whips my last wheeling trip. We got stuck in fog that we couldn't see more than 10ft and it was night. A group of the SxS passed us and had those whips man all the different colors really cut through the fog and allowed us to see really well. Amber is over rated now

 

Yep. The only possible time I could think of me using it would be if I'm the tail in a group and it's dusk/foggy out to be more visible. And even then it would not be necessary at all, just neat.

 

The fog we were caught in at Windrock a couple weeks ago man it was needed then it was scary AF being all the way at Panther rock in the dark not being able to see 10 ft.

 

I've got to go to shamrock just so I can go night wheeling and have a reason to use this.

During the day, the BD chase bar is literally invisible. You cant see it at all.

At night, it does alright, but I wish there was a high/low mode for different lighting conditions.

+1 on LED whips though.

 

We could all get lighted whips and give ourselves pirate names. This is something we could all get behind.

 

Yeah, between that and the switchpro that can turn flash and strobe on all my lights, I can get some serious DOT truck vibes going on.

 

I dunno, strobing red is probably a big no-no, even if it's rear-facing. I'm certainly not going to risk using it on a public road.
