Ok my new to me Tacoma with 85k the Ignition Switch cylinder is worn out, it still turns and starts but how much of a problem to change it out. I did a search and got lots of hits but no DIY instructions. Yes the OEM keys are Immobilizer ones.

This is the lock Cylinder not the electrical part of the switch??

Pop the cylinder take to local Lock Smith prices will vary depending where you live.

Cylinder rebuilt brand new parts you then don`t need to mess with door locks being Re keyed

I gotta ask how did you trash the cylinder so soon??

Its a used truck with 85,000 miles. Have you ever "popped the Cylinder" on a 2015... yes the keyed part not the electrical?

With the 2015 Immobilizer key I think that was all changed.? You have a 2000 things were simpler then.

There are videos on removing the ignition cylinder on yt. Not difficult if you've done it before.

Go-to the dealer registration in hand and have them cut you a new chipless key using the key code. Ask for the key code as well.

Take the new key and cylinder to a locksmith and give them that code as it'll save them the time deciphering it from the key.

Price the locksmith for a new chipped key as well.

You can still start the truck with a screwdriver after the chipped key is placed near the antenna ring. Ask me how I know..

I have contacted 2 automotive lock smiths via their Contact Me form and I will try calling them in the morning.
The one dealer I contacted wanted $1,000!!
The lock is worn But you say it can be rebuilt, I hope so. Thanks for the reply. Where is the antenna for the chip?

It's a ring around the cylinder. You can't miss it once the cover trim is off.

My cylinder was less than $50 to rebuild walking into the shop with it in hand

Sooo what if I froze the spare key with R22 refrigerant and popped apart the plastic to take out the RFI chip and taped that on the ring, used my new non coded key to start and run?

Because I can order a new keyed cylinder and two new keys, not programed from a Toyota dealer online for $225 or so, install and then drive over to the locksmith to have him code those new keys.

I found an Automotive locksmith that will do it all, rebuild existing key tumbler and make keys as needed and program all for less than $300. Plus they do this everyday. Goes in January 7th. Thanks again for the suggestions and help. :)
