thanks I can assume 1" shorter for now based on feedback but well see. That's pretty high above the truck, was hoping it would be more compact fit but well see.

this gives me hope about bed rails lol :fingerscrossed: i think putting the anderson bullet on will be needed if i can make the metal bed rails work.

can you post a side profile of your truck as level to the cab as you can get? Seems like maybe they changed their dimension vs Peter’s truck.

EDIT: Actually maybe not. The shark fin is still equal or lower than the high point above the cab

The high point on both the 2nd and 3rd gen is the center of the cab. Shark fin clearance looks to be a few inches, but think it's equal to the height of the center of the cab, as the roof slopes down as you go toward the bed.

I think if you swap bed rails theres a good chance that the tent will hit your roof on 2nd gen.

are you running a 3rd gen now? Your icon always confuses me. possibly. My 2013 has no sharkfin so will have plenty of room it seems

No, my truck is a 2006. I did pretty in-depth work with Spencer to understand the dimensions of the camper in order to ensure that it will fit in my garage. Last time he and I looked at the numbers (which could have changed since, but not likely), they were using the same frame for the 2nd and 3rd gen. Those dimensions would yield 1.5" of clearance over the roof high point of the Gen 3, and around .5" clearance on the Gen 2. I believe the bedrails are close to .75", so if you replace them with .25" rails, you will be very close to sitting on your roof with the overhang.

The sharkfin is basically the same as, or slightly lower than the high point in the roof as the roofline slopes downwards as you move closer to the front of the bed. Does that help?

Again, maybe these dimensions have changed, but as of my visit to the shop last month they were still recommending to not swap bed rails.

I've read reviews on Amazon that stubby has realy poor reception. So I'm looking for alternatives. Even if we removed the long antenna on the Ranger/ Colorado put a 2" stubby thats already 4". The base alone is 2+inches. I think SP camper only have a 4" clearance

Drawing not to scale. This was the best way I figured to show the clearance at different locations all at once. This is a top down view.
The sleeping platform extends 35.5” over the truck cab at the furthest point of the corner hardware. The center front is measured at the tightest point which is the rail as it’s a smidgen thicker than the rest of the underside. The remaining measurements don’t have the rail included as the camper is wider than the taper of the cab. Hopefully this all makes sense. Again this is not to scale and the “square” is only the sleeping platform that extends over the truck cab. The antenna is 2.5” tall so the actual clearance over the antenna is 1.5”.

cool - so the shark fin is the highest point - that's good to know.

Using the 2.5" roofline clearance number on the 3rd gen, you should have approx 1.5' inch roof clearance on the 2nd gen since the bed is 1" lower (not sure what the shark fin takes up of that space), so if you swap bed rails you'll have about .75" clearance over the roof (which will most likely cause the tent to rest on the shark fin if it's actually the tallest point).

Took the hose to my truck yesterday, the third brake light let in quite a bit of water FYI. I’ll be taking it off to look for defects and add some sealant
