Hm, i only hear the fuel pump when i turn the key to ACC mode. Maybe i need to check my hearing? My wife tells me that almost daily actually.

Try having your foot on the brake before you insert the key. If I remember right, the pedal rises when you stick the key in with out even turning it?

I think it might be the electronic brake booster that comes with the TRDOR and Pro

Edit- It happens when you turn the key to ON, but don't start the engine. Not when the key is inserted.

Thanks for replies. Tried looking in the manual book, couldn't find any info on this.

Interesting. That definitely happens in the snark key autos. Methinks it's a security interlock. @caribe makaira any schematic juju that would explain?

Wow that is interesting, never crossed my mind that there may be a difference like that between MT & AT.

It's running the low pressure pump in the gas tank to prime the system. As you noted, you don't have to fully insert the key, just insert it a little. My old school Civic does a similar thing. In that car, turning the key to the run position causes the ECU to run the fuel pump for 2 seconds to get the car ready to rumble.

Just ran out to check. It did the sound with/ without the brake. I wonder if the cold weather has something to do with it happening more/ stronger. Don't remember hearing it all the time

If your foots on the brake and u hit the button, the pedal "pressurizes" upwards and starts from it's baseline. It kinda makes a zzzzzzz sound. Almost like a fax, when the head traverses.

I went and double checked. My MT does it too, when you turn the key to on, but don't start

On second thought, it might be the steering wheel unlocking that I'm hearing

Is it the same sound it makes when you turn the truck off, with the door open, then push the door plunger button?

I think he means the plunger in the door frame, it would activate the interior light when the door is open.
