from some of the crazy stuff we've found in the attic and when we renovated we too are very surprised this place never had an issue. I think at this point the only thing that was helping its own case was she was alone her whole life and was 78 years old so she never had much going on.

Hung the TV the other day in my lanai so i added my Nest camera outside yesterday. Used an extra bracket i had, drilled a hole in it and installing it to one of the storm shutter studs on the wall with a wing nut. I like to save certain brackets or other hardware so if i need to "customize" something i have some stuff to play with. This is really temporary for now until i run my real cameras around. This was laying in my toolbox so decided to install it.

My back and legs are gonna hate me tomorrow. The den, 2 bedrooms, and 3 rugs done tonight. The den will get another cleaning tomorrow, and at least 2 more rugs.

Anyone have any experience with these saws?

    2F73F4FB-0972-494A-A5B0-B10354F87A3D.jpg

I’m putting together a purchase request for the new year and am curious about how they perform. I have students that can’t seem to no try and cut the wrong material on the wrong saw all the time. Maybe one saw for everything would work better?

I guess the brand, or any other brand that would cut the same. Good for wood, steel, other metals same as the evolution saw claims.

we use abrasive saws and an Ellis and scotchman cold saw to cut big stuff, and chop saws for wood, but I hate the abrasive saws and would like a metal saw that can travel to site.

Looking at building a 40x50 shop (metal building) with an apartment in it while I save to build my dream house, what you you folks think about this floor plan?
I want to keep the apartment 40x20, it's all the space I would need since it's just me.

I’m planning on it being more of an office/gun room but if I need a second bedroom it can be setup for it, I modified a floor plan I made for my parents and didn’t change the label on the room.

About 1/4 mile through the woods to the southwest, hang a left at the runway and it will be past the end of the runway on the right.

It's always a wise idea to have a 2nd toilet, even if it is a small powder room, for visitors to use.

I agree with the second toilet. Place it on the shop side wall somewhere and then you or anyone else can reach it from the apartment OR the shop. (2 doors to enter it)

Not sure your climate, but may not want plumbing in exterior walls if you can avoid it.

The original plan had a second bathroom where the laundry room is now but I talked to my dad about it and he recommended that the space be used for other stuff, while I wouldn’t want to have a single bathroom for longer than a few years it’s acceptable (to me) for the foreseeable future. Not having the second bath also opened up room to have a small pantry and not have the entry door come through the laundry room.

Ah  anywhere in the kitchen would work fine. I’m considering extending the knee wall to get a bit more counter space and the range could go on that end.

I’m in hot/humid south Ms, the thought behind the plumbing being in exterior walls is if I wanted to I could knock out all walls except the bathroom and regain shop space if I wanted to.

I second this. I know for me it would be nice to do laundry/shower directly in from the shop area so I don't have to go all the way through the house. Can also do all your HVAC right there in the shop for super short plumbing.

I did something similar before I built my house. I ended up putting the washer/dryer in the bathroom. No kids at the time so I didn’t put in a 2nd bedroom. Just made the living room a little bigger. Once the house was built, I left the bathroom and kitchen area but gutted the rest to make it a man cave/pool house. I used carpet and vinyl flooring. If I had to do it today, I would use an epoxy paint or Ucoat-It on the floor instead. One other thing to consider is moving the header in the hall to have a separate door for the bedroom. To access my bathroom, a person would have to go through my bedroom. This is not always the best situation. Don’t forget about an overhead exhaust fan for your stove. You asked for opinions so this is mine. Good luck. I am not a carpenter but I have built houses, shops, and camper garages for myself, my parents, and my in-laws.

@OZ-T is the guru in here. If he says to do it one way, take it to the bank. Check out his current project. Plenty of thought put into this before he started. The detail is far beyond my skill set. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...damn-shop-already-build.666783/#post-23384249

Looks good. A 1/2 bath for guests would be a nice addition.

Thanks for the input gentlemen, I reworked the plan to eliminate the HVAC closet as I'll be going with 14' or taller eves so I can put the air handler above the apartment, I also added a half bath, enlarged the pantry, and moved the design of the kitchen. I'm still messing around with reworking the laundry room to maybe give a bit more space to the master bath.
And I just realized I didn't put a fridge in, oh well, I can pull a cabinet for that.
    Screenshot 2020-12-24 103000.jpg Screenshot 2020-12-24 103032.jpg

Edit, further revisions including adding the fridge, I'm pretty happy with this one.
