It might not be so much about the landing/crashing area of the first stages, and more about the orbits they are trying to achieve with their payloads. That's why spacex sometimes launches from Florida and sometimes from California

Yea, it’s tough living on the beach in SoCal. But someone has to do it.

Oh, I lived across from the Redondo Beach pier for a time after leaving Seattle. That very specific part of living on the beach was nice.

Everything else about living in SoCal, well... I live in Utah now

I could see that but a few years back Russia made a big deal of expanding their facilities farther north because "Father Land." They've made it pretty clear they want everything important to fit three criteria: be run by someone in the oligarchy, be located in European Russia, and be able to do everything the Americans can (sort of lol).

Years ago I made a solo trip from the east coast to my bud’s place a block from Redondo Beach.

Beautiful part of the country but in the couple of weeks there, I couldn’t get used to the ocean being on the wrong side.

That and the fact I like variable weather kept me from staying.

snarky comment: For those familiar with KanBan, good job, that's unrelated to this. This is all supply chain management and material coordination, KanBan is a tool for that, but SCM handles all this junk, with WIP and JITD that they're likely working with.

If SpaceX can't afford SAP or a similar ERP/MRP system, I'd be surprised.

Both, definitely both. Hadn’t realized the ‘walking’ bots were capable of such coordinated movement, or that the rolling one even existed.

I think his goal is Mars.

    That’d be one helluva elevator...

Well, I meant an elevator to do heavy lifting instead of Starship. Then he could just lift everything up to the orbital platform and build his spacedock and build a spaceship from there.

This. Even if your ride was 45-60 minutes, you could constantly be sending freight up and down without noise or special permits, or space suits.

I don't know why Space-X gets all the attention. Maybe it's because they have had so many crashes/explosions/failures. Blue Origin has launched and landed their New Sheppard vehicle more than a dozen times (without crashing and burning).
These guys have kept a relatively low profile until the past five years or so and have a better landing system, more powerful USA :oldglory:designed and built engines, and most likely will put people back on the Moon and Mars long before Space-X even gets close. They have even developed a cutting edge design for a new lunar lander engine.

I've been to their West Texas launch facility and personally witnessed a test of their small engine (BE-3). Their new larger engine the BE-4 uses liquified natural gas which has a far higher energy density than the liquid hydrogen that the 1970's technology Russian designed and built rockets use.

    Blue Origin = Space-X =:bananadead:
