The Expanse (Syfy then Prime series & Some Book Stuff)- Still Canceled

Ahh, it should make sense if you read book five. Don't think I can explain without spoiling major plot points..

I definitely recommend the books. Probably the best Sci-Fi I've read. IMO, if you enjoy reading and you enjoy Sci-Fi you should definitely read them.
As far as the story lining up, most of the major plot points are the same.
The first couple books include a lot more of the political drama that happens between Earth, Mars, and The Belt. The show cut pretty much all of the politics of the first books. There's a few characters in the books that aren't included in the show. Some of the missing characters are kinda mashed together into different people in the show.

tl:dr I recommend these books to anyone/everyone.

 

Thanks for that, I was wondering it myself. I was looking into the reviews last night, they were overwhelmingly positive. Definitely on my queue for the next read.

(As to the GOT series, the story very much deviates from the show by book 4. Is it worth it though? meh. It's a drier read than some of my technical papers. GRRM presents it like a history textbook. It was the only series where I had to keep a list of highlights and notes, which seems to be a requirement to keep from getting completely lost. 3rd book is great, but 1st and 5th are terrible.)

I haven't read GOT myself. Can't say I plan on it either. Maybe when I was younger and more into dragons and such (Eragon, etc.) but I heard GRRM is pretty dry.
One of The Expanse authors Ty Franck worked as an assistant for GRRM at one point, iirc. GRRM is also a fan of The Expanse and helped get it picked up by Amazon when SyFy cancelled it.

Good example.. Ashford is a completely different character in the books. lol

Of course.
I watched 2.5 seasons or so before I started the books.
Once I started the books, I stopped watching the show until I was on book four or five. Then I restarted the show.

There's a timeline from Reddit that shows roughly how the books/novellas line up with the show.

Season five should pull from books five and six.
Book nine title/cover has been announced and it will come out in 2021.
There will also be another novella.
