Rust on Frame with A/C drain mod fix

Doesn't surprise me at all.

 

AZ is pretty dry if I recall, (so you probably dont have a ton of condensation) Its cool you dont have rust issues down there. You've been all over this thread saying its not an issue for you. For those of us in places other than AZ, especially those in the rust belt, us car guys have learned to do everything possible to help stop any chance of rust. This is a cheap easy mod that helps keep consistent moisture off our frame. A slow drip of water on our metal frame is worse than no drip of water on our frame. simple as that.

 

Yeah, very dry here, hence the desert lol. In fact I don't know if we have gotten ANY amount of measurable rain for this entire year which has actually never happened at least since 2013 when I moved here. My 1st Gen Tacoma lived the first 14 years of it's life in the CA bay area which isn't too dry and that truck doesn't have rust either. My main reason for posting in here is because when I first saw this thread I was about to go right out and do this mod immediately, but then I noticed the exact same AC drain line on my '99. I'm just letting people know that Toyota has been doing this forever on the Tacoma because a lot of people in here act like it's a new thing.

 

Doing it though, is a very inexpensive mod for piece of mind.

 

True. I may still do it one day, but for now I'm not too worried. I have heard people mention the possibility that it could cause water to pool up under the passenger floorboard I guess if done incorrectly, and that also sorta worried me lol

 

Yes, possible, if a mouse crawls in and gets stuck or you run through a lake of thick mud and it hardens and doesn't drop or gravity reverses itself or...

Then again it's a 3s check to make sure the end is clear if you ever get paranoid...

 

I have a random question in regard to this whole thing. I'm not an expert on how an air conditioner works. In both my trucks, I rarely ever notice much if any water on the ground after I park after having used the AC. Is this because I live in such a dry climate? Does it tend to drip more in a more humid climate?

 

There are several HVAC experts here. I've read some seriously amazing posts by some of them. I don't remember specific usernames though. I am reasonably confident saying yes to this but I'm definitely not one of those experts. Where I live fluctuates, it can be humid some days and it can be more dry on other days when the santa ana winds blow. I definitely notice a drip sometimes and other times I don't.

I wouldn't stress much about it either way, AZ vehicles are some of the most pristine since you have no salt air, mild winters, and very dry conditions which (based on what little I know) seems to be the best possible environment for preventing rust on metals.

 

Does it really never get hot in San Diego? I have heard it's always in the 70s in the summer. It can get humid here at times in the summer, during "monsoon season." For whatever reason we really never had any monsoons this year though. Yeah the climate is good on vehicles here, except for any black rubber or plastic trim on the exterior of your vehicle, and I guess the paint eventually. The sun sucks down here lol

 

Inland San Diego got over 110 a few times this las summer and the coast approached 100 a few times as well. It was certainly one of the hottest summers I've experienced here.

Just did the mod. Hopefully it will stop my frame from rustin. I didn’t want to see the hose from the under carriage so I ran it in from the from to the center. Hope you enjoy the pics of my job
