I mountain bike the LHOHV system, located off Lefthand Canyon in Boulder county, quite a bit. Before my time, it was a huge OHV area that I’m sure many folks here know of. Long story short, the system was shut down after the flood in 2013.

Looks like there’s a grant proposal to reopen the system to OHV use. Thought I’d share it here, https://cpw.state.co.us/Documents/T...d_Motorized_Roads_And_Trails_Project-2022.pdf for anyone interested. Redstone Cyclery shared it on Twitter just now.

the MTB in this system is pretty heavy IMO. Lots of loose fun, you can certainly feel the OHV vibes back there. Unfortunately a lot of new, unauthorized trails have been cut in recent years. It’d be interesting to see this area open back up to OHV use..not sure a Tacoma would take you very far.

I've been going to Lefthand Canyon since the late 80s.
Just prior to the floods they had actually done a lot of work with the trail system and it was pretty cool.
The problem has always been the shooters. I've been there as a shooter too, but it was the kind of place where people would drag TVs and refrigerators and all manner of garbage out to shoot it up and leave it lay.
They trashed it continuously for years and years.
I took my kids out there one time to learn to shoot and some jackwads in an A-Team type van roared up, jumped out, fired off about 1000 rounds in less than a minute, jumped back in and tore off. It was the damndest thing... Never took my kids back there.

Appreciate that story @teamhypoxia. That adds up with all that I’ve read on the area. Seems like it’s always kind of been this “Wild West” zone. I certainly feel bad for the OHV guys who put so much work into it, only to have it taken away. Hopefully the County and FS can make it work for everyone.

I've heard about the same from anyone when this location is brought up.

Too bad places so close to town get wrecked by trash humans
