Thanks for posting these pictures... I think I'm leaning towards picking up a textured finished one now too

i think Dsoup has a matte black like the most of the rest? Or did his matte black push you towards the other finish?

sorry if I’m confusing you, just didn’t want you to pick a finish looking at the wrong picture!

matte finish is by far the bigger seller. Urethane is nice as well but has a little more gloss and a bit more texture for sure.

20201227_161354.jpg 20201227_161346.jpg Got mine installed today also. Now on to the DIY cargo divider. Gonna utilize the OEM tie downs. Will work kinda like the one Toyota sells.

The Lomax arrived and was installed today. Thank you for all the information from this thread - great resource for decision making. Luke @ truckalterations.com was very responsive and great to deal with. Emailed him on 12/26; got a quote & paid on 12/28. It rained all day today but the box was dry and glad it arrived because the shipping label looked like it was scratched up - I thought about how hard it is to scan barcode labels on bananas @ Sams :) The truck barely fit in the garage with the tailgate down but managed the install despite the rain and cold :) Will check on the seals later based on information from prior posts. There are at least 2 or 3 video instructions out there, but the one that I pulled up while sorting out the hardware suggested running the weather seal flush with the box rail. This interfered with the tailgate closure and I actually had to cut off a section to allow the tailgate to close. Due to this slight error, I was actually short about 1-2 in of weather seal at the driver side bulkhead. This will be fixed later as I plan to install thicker plugs as suggested in prior posts.

A note on the weatherstripping. I too watched the online videos and ran the weatherstripping to the end of the box rail. As you experienced, the next piece of weatherstripping was slightly short. I realized that you can actually stretch it somewhat before applying without significantly deforming the weatherstripping. Don’t know if you could do it AFTER installation. If it hasn’t fully cured, you may be able to adjust it. Also, it will eventually fit just fine when opening / closing the tailgate. Good luck !

Thanks for the heads up. I will just focus on improving the weather-proofing of the bulkhead area and avoid adjusting the rest of applied weather seal. It sounds like the bulkhead gaps need special attention anyways, in addition to 1-2 other critical areas. Good point about stretching the weather seal a bit - perhaps other would-be installers would pick up on this.

Have beeb looking to replace a ragged out vinyl cover and like the look of the Lomax. Before i reach out for a quote:
My concern is getting the 7’6” fishing pole in the 5’ bed. As of now there is a gap between cover and gate that works out well. Can anyone verify that i will still be pass the fishing pole through with cover closed.
    Thank you

Don’t see that working out for you with the Lomax cover. I’m a new Tacoma owner and selected the Lomax, in part, because it closes up over the top of the tailgate. For what it’s worth, the cover is great.

Looks like you have a 2nd gen? I tried a quick search for Lomax installs on 2nd gens but couldn't find anything. Attached are some photos of that section on my 21 SR5. I don't have a fishing rod so I can't tell if the hardware will interfere with what you want to do. Even if I had a fishing rod, the tight space won't let me do it.

    What year Tacoma is that?

In theory as long as the pole can stay down below the top of the tailgate it may work...

Yeah, I thought it looked like a 05-15 Tacoma... They don't make the Lomax for those years unfortunately. 16+ models also closed up the gap between bed and tailgate at the top that he is using to pass the pole through.
