Nope, they are flare/compression fittings. If you do it right they won't leak. If it's wrong they will leak. Be extra careful lining up the fitting on the master cylinder. You should be able to thread the nut in by hand 90% of the way or more. If you can't, adjust your bends so it lines up better.

 

Can anyone point me in the right direction on the dimensions to bend the hardline? This is for a 3rd gen 2020 Tacoma. I tried skimming through the forum but did not see it. I bought all the stuff and plan on doing the ADM tomorrow. Otherwise, I will try the coat hanger method.

On a side note, my clutch is squeaking at 5200 miles. I read there's a TSB for it and mentioned it to the dealership when doing my 5k maintenance. Of course they couldn't replicate it so I'm debating if I should wait on this mod in case the dealership refuse to fix the squeak. May have to just use break grease like every suggested.

 

I just pulled out the accumulator and used that as a template to bend the line

don’t waste your time with the clutch TSB, just lube it up and you’ll be fine

Just a 90deg and a 180 is all that you need. From there, you can tweak it during the install.

 

Got the hardline installed. It was a PITA getting into some of the tight spots but now it's in. Appears to be no leaks after bleeding the clutch. Took it for a test drive and it felt drastically different. Engagement point is lower to the ground with no hesitation upon taking off. Will have to bleed the clutch some more as it does not release smoothly. The first half feels normal (fully depressed to halfway released) but the upper half release feels sticky. Is that indication that there is still in the line?

Yes, though. The engage point moving and that stickiness would be air in the lines. If it is close to normal, @TeecoTaco found that just driving it some more might cure it. The vehicle motion and such moving the bubbles up and out?

 

Does not feel close to normal so will try to bleed again. If it's close enough, I will drive it for a while and see it it cures itself like you said. Thanks

 

Did same...first bleed still felt too unusual so did a second bleed and it still had a bit of different feel from stock but pretty damn close. Figured I'd drive it a spell to see if it would burp itself and within a 100 or clutch cycles it was back to original squish. Your foot will tell ya when the air is out.

 

Reporting back after a second bleed. Clutch now is close to normal. Not exact but close enough like everyone is saying. Took it around the block again then checked for leaks. Nothing so I am satisfied. Thank you all for chiming in. Another happy ADM Tacoma owner here.

I peek in here once in a while. I just remembered I never bothered to put my head shield back on. Anyone else not bother? Doesn't seem to make any difference. If I was an avid off-roader with the risk of sticks and rocks bashing the slave cylinder I would be more concerned, but for road use it's tucked pretty well out of the way to not be of much concern.

 

If it makes any difference I lose an ounce of sleep on this topic every now and then, thinking I’m you and I forgot to put my heat shield back on.

 

I don't really lose sleep, it's not really anywhere near the exhaust to cause heat issues. I can only assume that shield was intended to protect against mechanical damage.

 

You see worse summer conditions than we do. I would think the worst case is hot asphalt in traffic. If you saw no issues there, then there is probably no heat worries.

If something gets jammed up there off road, I can only guess there will be issue(s) with or without the tinfoil.

 

The secondary cat is right there. But, if you ain't boiling fluid, then . . .

 

Lol, it ain't a track car. Maybe if I had the OVT TT setup I'd be more concerned.
