If it was my truck, i would just use some color matched touch up paint on the chip. If it was worse, then, yeah, it would be repaired and painted but cant see painting an entire
panel for such a small chip. I know its a new truck, but i dont know what would bug me more, a small touch up or the paint shade being a tad off after painting.

Exactly my thoughts. My dad had an 86 mustang he bought used sometime around 93.... at some point prior to him owning it the rear quarter panel had been repainted. The quality of the paint was good but it didn’t age quite the same and it was more noticeable over the 10 years he owned it.

I’m sure paint quality has come along way in 30 years, but I still would not want an entire panel painted over a tiny chip, unless there is something more to it that didn’t come across in OP’s pics.

Those thoughts on repainting were the same as mine. It is quite literally only that small paint chip above, so I would prefer not to have to repaint the whole panel. The chip is down to the metal though, would only doing the touch up paint risk problems down the road? The truck will head into the shop in a few weeks, so I'll try to get some more info and then ask the shop for their opinion when the time comes.

Thats terrible, but glad its all working out with 0 injuries.

Nows you're chance to get insurance money and put it towards a rear bumper.

Separate claim is in for diminished value, their insurance is USAA, so I expect things should work out alright with that. I have the tech package, so not looking to give up radar and parking sensors for a rear bumper quite yet. Although I may be looking at throwing on the SSO slimline front bumper with the insurance money

My opinion is leave the little chip in favor of the factory paint. Don’t paint the side.

With so many stories of hit-and-runs and insurance screwing claimants, it's refreshing to hear of a good outcome from what must have been a crappy day for you.
