I've been thinking about putting 8-in mid-range drivers in my front doors. Right now I have morel tempo Ultra 692 6x9 mid-range drivers in the door. My current kit is as follows:

    Kenwood DMX905
    AudioControl LC6.1200
    miniDSP C-DSP
Morel tempo Ultra 692 kit run active
    JL 12TW3

If you are running 8s, drop a picture

There is a guy running JL 8 inch mids in his front doors.

Is there a reason you want to run 8s in your doors? 6x9 and 8s have very similar cone area, the days of 6x9 sounding worse than a round driver due to the cone deforming is long gone. The only advantage I have found to run 8s is that higher end speakers dont tend to come in 6x9 sizes (only round speakers are offered in really high end stuff)

focals sound great! i got skar audio cause their black friday sale was to low not to try them.. and im truly impressed.. my doors used to have all JL then the front got some kickers and these skars put them to shame.. but i put my 8" in the rear doors.. just make sure you check the depth of the magnet with your window all the way down.. my 8s were 3" deep or so.. with the added 3/4 mount i got about 1/2" of clearance.. i got 6.5 in the fronts..IMO it would be better to have the 8s in the rear.. doors.. logo is upside down cause the stock wires wouldnt reach lol.. since then i took out all the stock speaker wires and ran new ones 20201208_185535.jpg

For those I dont think it would be worth it sound wise, your going to be able to find much better 6x9s for a similar price. Remember that a 8 inch is not a very common speaker size for doors, people who are using them generally are paying to get a audiophile grade system. So the lower end 8s are not going to sell much, and thus probably not be worth it for the company unless they are making a good profit on them. Those ones are part of focals lower grade systems. Now this does go out the window for SPL guys who just want to throw as many 8s in the door as they can, but SPL 8s are going to be built more like a PA system with a cloth accordion surround and a paper cone. SPL 8s just need to play loud, not sound perfect.

Check out this site, you can make your own component set.

You could go with these morels as a direct replacement for your current 6x9 morels.

I'm looking more SQ here. Don't get me wrong, the Morel Tempo Ultras are great.

As for rear speakers, I'm running just front stage and sub. No rear door speakers anymore. No one back there anyway.

I may end up doing nothing, am kind of "feeling around".

Does the 12w3 JL fit without modification?

Some modifications were required. Took the back off of the seat on that side, as well as the child seat safety tethers.

Those focals won’t be much of an upgrade to your tempos if any. That’s one of their entry level speakers

Is there a difference in front door mounting between 2nd and 3rd gen? If it is relet I have 8’s in a 2nd gen. The first set of 8’s were 8.75” O.D. , then fit in 9.25” O.D. The latter with a .75” mounting just fit, mean just... I did cut out the grill shape in the door card to open and monkey f’d it back with grill clothe. Putting 8’s made the door card resonate and vibrate even with CLD, CCF. Opening up the hole did help with with what I guess is letting the pressure out. The door switches were less of an issue afterwards. I was also able to seal around the speaker to door card which helped as well.
The speakers I am referring to are the Dynaudio take outs from older Volvo’s. I did notice a difference going from a 6.5 to an 8, and have not fully committed to modding the doors for sealed midbass..

2nd gen you have 3 sets of 2 in the seats but there are one behind on the back wall as well. I have to use that for our seats. If not you would need to use the belt option of mounting. So if you cut everything off you def cut off the anchor for car seats

It's like a whole different experience. I still need to trim a little bit from the tether mounts (I just cut of the loops - didn't do a very good job) to get the box to sit flush though. In hind site, I probably should have put it on the other side but whatever.
