Put in the work, people will eventually trust you and show you the goods. Kinda been the moto for as long as bootleg trails existed.

They're not for sale on WWC, but I have been very happy with my hunt carbon wheels. They're not super stiff, but noticeably more snappy than aluminum hoops. They also have 120 POE and a lifetime warranty for $800.

In my experience, water intrusion is not as bad as people make it out to be. I have lived out of my truck both with a wedge camper and a self-installed POS topper before that, neither one leaked in any significant way. I have only done minimal sealing of the side cubbies and around the tailgate, nothing on the bed rails as others describe.

I've also built SUVs and vans out for camping. They're definitely better sealed than a truck bed which makes for a drier and warmer camper. However, truck beds are more of a blank slate to build out which gives you more options. Suburban is a pretty huge and simple SUV though, so probably plenty of room. Really comes down to what you want.

What hubs? And where did you get them for $800?

I’m seeing them for under $800 on their site. 3° engagement hubs. And they have a lifetime crash replacement option. Not bad!

Hunt makes the hub too. I believe they're 6 pawl, so nothing ground breaking. The hubs were my biggest concern in buying these but they've held up so far and I'm definitely in the Clydesdale category. Also, I'm pretty sure the hubs are covered under the lifetime warranty as well.

Hunt sells them direct to consumer, just Google hunt bike wheels.

Wow. I didn’t realize Hunt was that affordable. 3* and 120 POE is pretty good. I’ve gotten spoiled with hydras though.

Honest question, do you really think you'd notice the difference between 120 POE and hydra? I was always under the impression it's indistinguishable above a certain point. These Hunt hubs are the highest POE I've ridden.

    Honest answer, yes.

The hubs I had prior to hydras where bontrager hubs I’d upgraded to a 6 pawl kit that gave just over 3* engagement and 108 POE. Admittedly that is a touch less than the 120 POE on the Hunt hubs (or I9 torch) so my experience isn’t a direct comparison. That upgrade made those hubs feel amazing compared to what they were prior.

The upgraded engagement seemed instant...until I rode hydras...

I would agree that at a certain point the engagement does become indistinguishable. But I will say I could discern a slight lag in engagement when going from 108 POE to the asinine 690 POE.

Even Hydras are not instant, need to go to a sprang clutch like Onyx to get that. @SenatorBlutarsky is prob pointing out the diminishing returns though as you get to smaller and smaller degree of POE. With 120 POE and assuming 175mm cranks youre only moving your pedal a maximum of 9 mm before your engaging

Of course, Hydra cuts that down to only 1.6 mm @backcountryj

Man, no wonder this sport is so expensive. What’s the math if I go from 20° engagement on 170mm cranks to Hydra hubs?

170mm give your a radius of 1068mm. 360 / 20 degree is only 18 POE. So you're engaging every 59mm or 2.3". Or in your case, one dick's length.

Haha I probably got a lot of that just not posted.

if our local groups would quit doing work days and group meetings on tuesdays at 11am or Thursdays at 1am or whatever other time absolutely nobody can make, then I’d get to learn more and participate. For now, it’s YouTube, and finding on my own. Sucks to suck if I find your hidden gem lol

Yeah if I know about a trail, I ride it. But I'll also help dig when I can.

Yeah I’ve tried to make any day I can, but they literally pick the worst ones lol. “Oh nobody will be at work on Christmas Day let’s do it then” is sort of how they seem to think
